When I started my podcast and began editing the episodes, I realised how many filler words I used! Recording yourself is a great way to pick up on those filler words that detract from clear communication. Great video Riaz!

You are so correct with the substitution of UMS and AHS for Right and SO. Now I know that I need to close my mouth shat.

I learnt what my filler words are whilst editing my YouTube videos. So tired of all the time I spent editing, I thought I have to do something about this. It does feel more relaxing to just breathe, pause or close your mouth. Thanks for the video.

Taking meaningful pauses is such a good tip - use them in your favour and to create an effect (and while you're doing it you can take a breath and regroup on your next thought!). ✨

Riaz, I used to watch you on Breakfast Television every morning when I was in grade 9 back in 2011. Really happy to see you here!

I did not have the habit of saying um ah .... I got it after watching people on youtube. And I started adopting it thinking it was cool 😢

Yes! I've pretty much eliminated ums, but have noticed an "ok" when I get passionate about something! Great tips!

I think the idea of having friends watch us speaking and making tallies on things we say too often is a fun and creative idea! Especially for YouTubers just starting out. Keep up the great content!

This resonates with me so much Riaz! As a former Toastmaster, where your filler words are counted during meetings (just like your tip), despite being hyper-aware of filler words, I still catch myself using them. I'm definitely going to try your strategies! Thanks!
