I just hate the people that are like "my dad's, boyfriend's, sister's, plumber has an xr6 turbo that he bought for 20k so why don't you just do that."

To be honest I have a turbo (retirement prezzy from the missus) and an NA. The turbo is stock, won’t touch it, whereas the NA daily is my toy, happy to modify it as it’s worth stuff all. Everybody has a different view or opinion, regardless it’s great seeing a community young and old keeping these Aussie icons on the road. Great video, learnt a lot and thanks.

Cost wise it makes sense to start with NA if you want bulk power. I spent similar money on my factory turbo, I bought all the stuff you bought except for things like the map sensor, fuel rail, manifolds etc. so really if you want power you're spending like $1500 more to start with an NA than it would cost to do the mods with a turbo that costs a lot more than $1500 more to buy.. The big difference though is you do have a stronger engine and trans with a turbo. if you want more than like 500kw though there is no reason to start with a turbo because you need to replace damn near every factory component at that point.

Just curious.
Wouldn’t it be cheaper to buy a XR6T engine which would come with the a lot of the things you had to do to the NA and fit it? I am thinking about doing either what you did or doing the turbo engine conversion.

Was going to do this but was lucky to find a turbo for 25k in mint condition. Ive always had valiants and the ls. Costs a fortune to build a decent 360 Chrysler engine. The Barra is and absolute bargain. Have always liked the last of the Fords and thought you only live once, theyre a beautiful car. Now i have a VYSS ute, the XR6 turbo and my old Chrysler regal se. Worked on them all and we had the best once .

When I had my ba, I had a $5000 budget, so I looked for ba turbo and yes they were available but totally trashed, so I paid to get my ba turboed and I got a car i already knew and put out more power than a factory turbo.

Another option to turbo is to buy one off auctions wrecked. Cost me 7500 plus 750 to get it shipped over. Was a black xr50 turbo. The car was stolen and not a lot of damage so didn’t wreck it but if I was to could have easily made a decent amount back.

I brought an N/A Fg of a mate for $1500, and this makes me more excited for the conversion to turbo

If I use an FG OEM log style turbo exhaust manifold on my BA, will the FG dump pipe fit properly ?

I have a na xr50 that I love and want to +t it so bad. I can afford parts of the 15k ish price tag but to get some1 to install it is what's holding me back. I have very limited mechanical knowledge and would def need the assistance. How much did the install cost u in Townsville?

I have to totally disagree. A N/A turbocharged car will not sell for anywhere near a XR6T in year's to come. So to say spending 17k on transforming a N/A into a turbo is better financially then buying a xr6t is incorrect. In 10+ year's I can assure you that the xr6t will be worth at least double to what it is today. In 20 years the sky is the limit. In fact a totally stock xr6t particularly in manual, will be worth crazy money.
