If you press the cake down it will be more dense just keep that in mind because if you want a light and airy cake you should just level it

Or use a wet cake strip. Put it around the pan before placing it in the oven.

Pl don't strangle the cake... The extra top which u get after slicing the cake also lets u taste the cake before serving it to others

Or you can use wet cake stripes if you don’t have that. Put wet news paper and wrap it in tin foil and wrap it around the tin

You don’t need to press or put pressure just when slightly cool’s flip top side down on your cooling mat or rack. What your doing is destroying the crumb /aeration 🤦🏻‍♀️also studying your oven and ensuring an even bake without strips will always give you a steady rise and no off cuts 🤡
