This clutch has many confusing levels- These babies don't look quite sable, but they don't look quite axanthic either... What are they?! Also, did the egg that Umbra (their mother) attempted eating make it? Find out in today's video!

Although I will never get to own one, because I live in Australia and we don't allow non-native snakes to be kept as pets (also Husband says no more pets!), I have decided that Hognose snakes are my favorite kind of snake. I love watching all the cute babies you hatch and seeing all the different morphs. My 11yo daughters also enjoy your videos although all of us independently found your channel! They will often ask me if I saw the new video yet, or I will let them know there is a new video to watch.

Y'know I wasn't super convinced before, but after seeing the sunburst clutch, I do wonder if sable is a more complicated gene than I thought. I think snakeful grace was right, and it's a darkening gene, but it might also affect pattern- like the tiger/leopard pattern snakes from that clutch. It's possible these axanthicy ones are smthn too.

What about patching with a chicken egg membrane or piece of shell with membrane? When the white dries it's like glue. Just a thought in case another egg gets damaged.

As some of the babies should be het sable, I would put my money on the ones who came out looking axanthic as being the ones who picked up the sable gene. If you can determine which those were and hang on to them you could prove it out.
The first name that immediately popped into my head for Umbra is Lamia. She eats children and is often depicted as serpent like.
