her life story is so sad. miki was diagnosed with uterine cervic cancer, which she kept a secret for a long time from people and carried on with her music career. she battled cancer for 3 years. 2 months before her death, miki wished nobody would listen to her music and said she had regretted her music career as a whole, because she spent her life being too focused on making music and didn't live her life fully enough. edit: this part is inaccurate (read next paragraph). miki spent the last 2 months of her life with her family, and later passed away at the age of 44. she told her husband that she wished she could restart her life again and live it more fully. rest in peace <3

edit: i believe i have misunderstood, to all the people that read my comment, i apologise. i researched into this again one year later, and i found out what i said "miki wished nobody would listen to her music and said she had regretted her music career as a whole, because she spent her life being too focused on making music and didn't live her life fully enough" is inaccurate. it is unclear to me what miki truly felt, because there isn't much information about it online (she was a private person), but i found some information from an article below called "Okay Bliss":

“I have got a favor [to ask]. Please forget about the years of my life singing and making music. I can’t help but feel that the way I have been living my life has brought about my sickness…I must find a way to reset myself.”

While Matsubara’s words in the message are commonly interpreted as an admission of her resentment of her music career, some fans say that her words were taken out of context.

It was further revealed in a documentary that she burned some of her favorite musical scores and records in her last year because she could not come to terms with the little time she had left to compose music.

According to Matsubara’s father, during her final days, she had said that there were “still so many things” she wanted to do and that she did not “want to die”. - Okay Bliss Article, 2022.

In her last email before her death, which was read by her husband at her funeral said - “I realized many things for the first time after I was diagnosed. If possible, I want to be healthy and return the courtesy for [my family] a lot. I want to be healthy and restart my life.” -
My conclusion is that Miki enjoyed her music career, as she "could not to come to terms with the little time she had left to compose music". However, she also blames the way she was living her life as a cause for her sickness -"I can't help but feel that the way I have been living my life has brought about my sickness." With the contexual knowledge that Miki was a hardworking and dedicated person, it can be interpreted that she overworked herself during her musical career, and didn't take time to slow down to enjoy her life more. I believe she loved music, but it overworked her, and took too much of her time, so she had less time to spend with her family, and felt sadder. Therefore, Miki wished she was more balanced between making decisions about work (music) and the rest of her life, hence her love hate relationship with it, and the confusion between whether she loved music in the end or hated it. - sara
