it took one ignorant doctor having an overly seasoned meal in the 1960’s and this is where we are.

My grandpa ate grape fruit and eggs about every morning. He always searched for a good medium rare to rare stake every evening. The other thing is that my grandma wouldn’t let him start drinking brandy until noon. He had a smoke or two waiting for his brandy. He was a provider of a household of four. My father being one of them. My grandpa died after my grandma died. He was a wreck. “I drink smoke and your grandma went first!” Anyway, everyone is different. Would be cool to figure out all of our differences. My grandfather was a gymnast, captain of a college football team in early 1930’s. He grew up with a bunch of brothers and one older sister! I think his older sis made to almost 90 like my grandpa. The rest didn’t. Something to look into. Mental condition seems to be most important. In my opinion.

Maybe I'm dating myself but who remembers Accent Flavor Enhancer? I remember the TV commercials in the 70s (?) Basically it's MSG, still sold today.

I would recommend Kombu seaweed if you need that Umami kick without the risk of unnatural/overprocessd MSG. Great way to get more Iodine in your food as well

As a person who is extremely sensitive to excitotoxins I am frustrated by the lack of label honesty/truthfulness.

Oh well, we do what we can. Like I tell my friends- I can’t stop breathing the polluted air so we do what we can in the meantime…

I used to work at a foodstore and i had to repackage msg from a big bag into little bags and evertime i had to do it, it would give me a headache which i thought was interesting. What I find even more interesting is that when I turn to the internet to find out why there's a lot of people saying its natural and that people and that people are making it up when i know as a fact that it does give me a headache. I'm starting to think that the person who invented it made himself a lot of money and the food companies that use it make a lot of money and people just see it as a necessary evil but the cognitive dissonance and denial is what gets me. Im just curious and want to understand things i dont know why people feel the need to defend msg so much.

I never used to have a problem with MSG ... but as I got older, MSG started to give me severe migraines after I ate it. I was forced to give up one of my favorite Spanish seasonings because of the migraine headaches it gave me.

I didn’t read comments and that’s because as a Holistic Nutritionist and Internacional Chef, I respect your knowledge and how you share your point of view and feedback ❤ Umami can be acquired by a more natural process for a single household or single person lifestyle if willing to spend the time by just a few hours to create that amazing flavor on a healthier way. MSG has been the mother of processed foods for over 200 years and is time to go back to basics. #cookingwithdashesoflove #backtobasics #eatingwithintention

It infuriates me the way food companies get away with concealing what’s in their products. 😡

My brother-in-law worked for the company that produces a very popular cookie that’s been around for generations. We were talking abt mfg vs home baking. They are allowed 3% other.

question about fat, leptin, & set point on keto: if fat is being stored as much as its burned (maintenance calories), would leptin response prevent all day hunger pain as a person gets lean, as long as fat is returning to the cell despite also being emptied? I hope i phrased that right.

I thought msg was harmful. It seems that using a small amount once in a while wouldn't hurt. I eat natural but there are some dishes that disapoint me. Maybe I'll try a wee bit. 🤔

The hard cheeses (parm, romano, etc.) you recommend are effectively pure glutamates/"excitotoxins." Does this mean that you're no longer recommending hard cheese?

There is lots of nuance within this topic. One great test for this is to eat totally "clean" for 90 days. Make notes on how you feel at that point. Now, go to a Chinese restaurant and load up. Take note of how you feel after the meal. Your body may have more or less tolerance. This test can be done on any item one consumes.
