That “sweeping” motion is a good tip for lats, but I do dumbbell rows for my upper back and there you must protract and retract your scapula, it’s basically a different motion

Great tip. Thank you for being mindful of the 50-plus. We especially need to incorporate safety into our strengthening routine. Please continue the trend going forward with additional routines, though particularly for shoulders and knees. These joints can be very problematic. Thank you!

Ryan Humiston released a video I watched a while back that talked about improving back exercises. Basically what Eugene is saying. Stop doing lat movements with elbow flexion and extension. Instead flex the elbow slightly and don't change the angle. Only angle in your arm that should be changing is that between your humerus and your oblique.

I have only just over the last couple of weeks 'swept' the arm like that. Ive taken the weight down to really focus on the movement, and I cant believe how unactive the lats were the whole time. Be it the cable machine, the lat pulldown- any Back excercise, I focus on the sweep and think about the lat the whole time.

Literally finished back workout just before this vid 😂
Tho I’ve swapped out rows for towel chin ups… I think great for forearms, bi’s and lats but what you think?

Why focus so much on lats in rows? shouldn't vertical pulling be better for lats? But for that swiping motion I feel it best with landmine row when I position myself in front of my grip so it forces me to do that swipe motion.
