I drove a rented Ford Ecosport few months ago(I am from India) and while I was amazed by its power delivery vis-à-vis its efficiency(which is pretty good even compared to frugal Indian standards), the seating position was bummer, it was not possible to see several feet of pavement ahead starting from the front bumper which is not the case with higher, lower or other cars that I have driven so far..the caveat here is I haven't driven many cars as I am more into motorcycles.

Automotive manufacturing is out of control! We need to focus more on mass transit ideas. We have to stop these auto manufacturers from gouging the consumers.

Interesting VW going after JAC, isn't that who manufactures NIO cars?

At least Subaru kept the manual... let see if the sales numbers give them a reason to keep them in the long haul.

Marry Barra "she sure knows how to make money" best Autoline quote ever... We should not forget too, the sales are not lost, only deferred for the most part due to lack of inventory.

Did any but fleets buy ecosport? I see very few on the road, and hey sit on dealer lots a long time. Seems like the vehicle no one asked for.

-BMW and Mercedes are going to be real confused why their sales dried up and their competitors are raking in the cash...

-The new WRX design over the weekend had proven to be UNIVERSALLY REVILED by basically EVERYONE! I owned an STI, and I wouldn't buy this new Crosstrek sedan. Whoever approved this needs to be publicly fired and an apology given.

Sean, wonder how many of the > 300 vehicle manufacturers in the PRC are not owned by Government entity, either from the local or regional level... (very few probably) and that may explain that 53% production out of their capacity. If you take other mayor markets as examples, a market like PRC only can support 2-3 international players with 5-10 other companies producing vehicles.

(I say vehicles 'cause soon vehicles = BEV's, so it'll wind up as almost one and the same)

So, the CCP and the PRC Government entities (politics and economics are always in sync, more so in any socialist country, whether democratic or totalitarian) have A LONG TO GO to "rationalize" their vehicle industry, which will affect the balance of power throughout the Industry worldwide.

One more thing... Any kind of socialist system (democratic too) where the Government is supposed to control the economy doesn't mix well with Federalism (local entities with more or less autonomy).

You're right, Sean... Let's see the STRUGGLE between Beijing / CCP and the Provinces.

Regarding the VW-JAC story: are you talking about VW having stakes in the FAW, JAC and SAIC auto companies or only their joint-venture subsidiaries with VW?

Mercedes and BMW price depreciation is breathtaking. I just don't see them having a rosy future.

So BMW/Mercedes are playing the short-term game of milking higher margins here, by keeping prices high. This is not smart long-term policy, they are not a monopoly, what this does is make competing products from other companies - especially Tesla considering the rapid EV transition - more attractive for shoppers.

They should maybe consider holding on to more buyers while they work on their transition plans, rather than let more of their existing consumer base deteriorate with such greedy short-term thinking imho.

Too Many EV Companies?
They did that with internet company 20 years ago. and now only a few giant remain.
Same thing will be for the EV company.

"China has too many Ev car companies."....so does the USA.... The government should not be giving incentives for Ev's. Only a small fraction of Americans will buy Ev's at any price and the rest of us should not be helping them pay for their choices.
