I hate when a hammer goes down my intake valve

"oh bummer, the ring land broke, no more compression." The monotone just made it even better.

Forged means a lot to my pockets and the legend pulled one out of the box to strike. Means a lot for demonstration to all enthusiasts/mechanics that are constantly learning non stop! Kudos

Moral of the story: don’t fill your gas tank with hammers

Just from experience if that's a SBC it's still gonna run, not gonna sound good but it will, I have a forged 0.60 piston with a intake valve that broke off and flipped around and went straight through the top of the piston and into the connecting rod and wrist pin, cracked the block on cylinder 7 and completely blew that end of the head off the block, made it the 5 miles home firing on 6 cylinders and never fell below 100mph

Now that's some "knock" right there

Subaru uses forged pistons for their sti in japan, but cast is the us. Because cast pistons get slightly better emissions on startup. Defund the epa.

I'm surprised I've never seen that done before, makes a lot of sense too

Oh my, what ever shall I do .. I have no choice but to go fully forged now, from top to bottom due to the represented force of detonation .. to ensure the wife and kids get to school and work in a .. safe manner 😗😏

I knew forged pistons were stronger than cast, but this really puts it in perspective. It also adds new meaning to pistons breaking in a top fuel engine!

Gives "PUTTING THE HAMMER DOWN" an awesome graphic.

Now do a semi-solid cast piston. The only ones that exist are marketed as "semi-forged" and they're an OEM upgrade for the 4AGE from Toyota. They're rated for 600hp in that engine. Semi-solid casting is a process where hypereutectic aluminum is heated up until it has a paste-like consistency and then I believe it is high-pressure squeezed into a mold or drop forged or something like that. The end result is a hypereutectic cast piston with an aligned grain structure, giving it the beneficial properties of forging (to a slightly lesser extent) as well as the beneficial properties of a cast piston (no piston slap, no or low blowby, not "warmup" period before safely romping).
