Depends
Scenario 1 : over 100kmp You see some obstruction at a distance, you simply mildly press brake and can still go without downshifting
Scenario 2: over 60 kmp, you press brake and press clutch and downshift .
Scenario 3 : but in bumper to bumper traffic light movement, you must press clutch and press brake.

If you do that on your drives ed test your instructor will fail you for not keeping the shifter in gear so you are always ready to move when you need it. But yes, that is what I always do, but I release the clutch in neutral so as not to Wear down the throw out bearing. Those do rub hard against the clutch fingers and eventually need replacing.

After 200, 000 Miles on the same Clutch I can safely say it really doesn’t matter if you use your clutch to break every time

To stop smoth you have to press clutch -> brake. And in the last moment before you stop you have to go of the brake (slow). Sorry for my English (i'm Austrian)

Use brake to reduce RPM to 1000x.
Then, initially use clutch then apply brake.

I watched my cousin from the passenger seat, who drivers a manual pick up truck, do this for an entire weekend while driving back from a camping trip we took together and it makes more sense than what I learned from a driving school 🙃

He’s some big brain pro gamer tips: most cars idles @ 750rpm, so always have the clutch in before your revs drop to there. I prefer to have the clutch in around 1000rpm just to be extra safe. If your rpm is above that while braking, there’s no need to clutch in (unless you are shifting)

i always put in clutch and brake at the same time, then less and less brake as I slow down to avoid the "hopp stopp"

You should push the break befor the clutch or shifting to nutral, because the engine helps to slow the car down, and thiss will save you a lot of break pads and discs. This gets significant at higher speeds.

Important Mistakes. (Made By Newbies and Experts)

1) Driver tend to press the clutch and then the brake when high speed as well as low speed, in this scenario its not safe at high speed as you will press the brake lightly to not let it skid.

But putting the brake first at slow speed, there are high chances car will stall.

If you are confident you can move the car quickly after putting in neutra, Then its ok.

But making the car movie with confidence, its better if you go on 2nd gear so it wont stall, Many people in india do driving like the ones shown in the video, Thats for drivers comfort but not safe.

If your travelling with families use clutch and brake as the car wont stall.

For ages we have been taught clutch first and then brake and this has worked ever since. Let's just stick to that

I downshift while braking, if it's a fast one even every 2 gears. By the end of the braking for a smooth transition I try to finish in my first gear and when I'm almost stopped to not stall I gently start pressing the clutch and releasing the gas like the opposite of what you to do start. When the car is at a speed so low that can move only by clutch I press again the brake gently to a complete alt, put in neutral and rest.

Why did you stop so close to the car in front of you, don’t be one of the people

A lot of people in here don’t know Jack about stick shift cars

Ngl it feels way smoother pressing the clutch first so you don’t feel the jerking motion of the car wanting to stall but yeah this method in the video is the way to do it
