2023 Subaru WRX 2.4T Malaysian review - modern 90's rally hero, from RM285k

The 2023 Subaru WRX is a modern yet retro throwback to the great 90's rally and PlayStation heroes. Bigger 2.4T engine means it's understressed and more reliable, with even bigger tuning potential too. Question is, is it still fun to drive, and what about its looks? even the oversea journalists are impressed with the cvt..many said its the best cvt on any car and it feels almost like a dct.

Shame that the US market gets a proper Recaro seat and a louder stock exhaust that is still barely passing JPJ standards. Say all you want about CVTs in general but here Subaru has made their CVT the best so far.

This project was originally inspired by the E36 M3 . It still is a good alternative to the Audi S3 or Merc A35. Subaru feels solid and drives well too.
If you buy and drive it for 10 years it will probably still hold its value and appeal to the enthusiasts then... It's perfect even when kept and driven stock.

One of its weaknesses is, its exterior looks. Its not an eye catching looks. Its just looks as an ordinary sedan. Subaru need to redesign it, so that its look more premium sporty and elegant.

I am not saying it's bad, the handling can be great, driving can be joyful. But for RM 290k, it is comes with too many flaws. Sad.

it seems very soon we all will be switching to modern EVs. And those things are cool and refreshing, packed with all kinds of electronic stuff. But after buying one I personally realised I miss the old school ICE cars, and I'd like to have one of those to keep. And this WRX seems to fit this perfectly.
The build quality is great, the interior is much more premium, all sporty elements are genuine and functional. Whats there not to like?
And I don't understand why so many reviewers like to thrash the design, I fell in love with it instantly.
Overall it is a nice old-school style engine that keeps everything we like about ICEs and this one even has a rally pedigree.

Great review. Definitely on the wish list of I had surplus funds (for a 3rd car) to spare; a true drivers car especially for us that came of driving age in the 90s.

But if with limited funds, the BYD seal would, I believe, be the wiser option; with a much more modern and luxurious design and interior.
