How to Get Classroom Confidence as a Beginner Teacher
Показать описание
If you’re a Beginning Teacher and the nerves are starting to creep in, then this video is for you... Find out what you need to do BEFORE you step foot in a #classroom this year to be a #confident and successful #teaching professional.
This tip is all about backing yourself and creating the confidence you need as a classroom teacher.
First of all you should know that confidence is not something that you automatically have, it’s something that you choose to do. You have to generate it yourself. And using your physicality to tap into confidence is a great place to start.
In fact, Tony Robbins suggests that there is only a 1 millimeter difference between being uncertain and being certain. So roll your shoulders back, stand tall and embody that self-belief at the core of your being. Students are looking to you for a sense of certainty – so show them, through your physicality, that you are a worthy leader. But it starts with you believing it first.
Secondly, be aware of your internal dialogue. You will carry these thoughts into your classroom as well. If you are constantly in a state of worry thinking, ‘How am I going to get this done? There’s not enough time. This is too hard. I can’t do this,’ then you will bring that state of chaos into the classroom and it’s difficult to lead from there. In fact, kids, straight out, don’t trust emotional instability – this needs to be taken care of long before you come into the classroom. So as you’re driving into work, use that time to get into the right frame of mind and start telling yourself, ‘I’m calm. I’m organized and I’m completely in control.’ Let this feeling sink in, hold onto it and carry it with you into the classroom so that you are now operating in a calm-assertive way. Most of all, don’t be too hard on yourself.
Allow yourself time to find what works best for you and to build quality relationships with your students. We can't avoid the challenging moments. In fact, it's exactly what we need to help us become better Teachers. But you can make a choice to back yourself - to trust that you've got what it takes to find a way and come out stronger, smarter and more skilled on the other side. And if you’d like to learn some very specific classroom strategies, make sure you keep an eye out for our Professional Development for Beginning Teachers.
It’s called Teach with Impact and dates will be released on our website so stay tuned and we’d love to meet you at one of our events soon.
