Commenting on a 12 year old video 🤣 Dave, I used to watch you way back, but had to quit guitar cos of work and moving and all that life nonsense. This year I came back to it and started playing bass. My basses needed a setup, one buzzing on the frets, one with ridiculous high action, I recalled your great instruction and looked this up, and here I am now with them both setup great. Thanks for your help brother, and glad to see you are still making videos. Best wishes for this new year 2025

I love this guy. No nonsense. maybe he's right, maybe he's wrong but he's got conviction and hard earned knowledge that I am finding, despite 50 years of f***ing with the bass guitar, invaluable and common sense.

Really old, really great. This should be linked in all of your videos. Just so much info in 11 minutes

Dave, u r awesome. Stuff like "back when we didn't have the right tool, we used a dime, a ten cent piece to set the nut height"...lol... Your voice is like course sand paper but for some reason its grown on me...haha.. I have learned a lot about setting up my basses and they play like much more expensive instruments... THANKS DAVE!!!!

I was waiting for the PLONK sound of the truss rod breaking during that last 1/8th turn... :-)

I`m sure someone mentioned already but file the bottoms of the saddles to get more room to drop them. works like a charm. thanks for the video

thank you for your response davey! it's a Canvas Modern 20 bass (one of the foreign basses made in the Far East) & the luthier has been in business since 1970 a small guitar repair shop in the West Village NYC. got rid of the bass last month due to being discouraged bout the whole idea though i like to pick another one up cause i really like the sound & it's presentation cause i've never seen anything like it b4 it's really purdie lol cheers!

You can file flats on the bottom of the 4 round saddles. That will give you a little more room to lower the action

I use a multi-driver handle over the end of the allen key/hex key when I have to use the handle side of the key in a truss rod. Gives you a good handle with all the leverage you need. Mine are magnetized so they hold the bits in which also helps get the key out. Works great. Later man.

One thing i see wrong is that the weight of the bass is being added to his adjustment because the bass is flat being held by the headstock adding it's weight to his adjustment. If he adjusts it to be flatter it will have a back bow when held in playing position. I always make tr adjustments in playing position not on the bench

I know this is an older video and I haven't read through all the posts but thought I would throw this out here in case you see it.Regarding your feeler gauge set, just take it apart and put the ones you use the most at the top and at the very bottom so you can go to them quickly. Nothing says you must keep them all in their original order.
