"feller can't put in a hard days work, put in 11-12 hours a day, and then get into a truck and at least drink 1 or 2 beers"

When that man said "1 or 2 beers", you know he meant 5 or 6

When I traveled to Texas on business, back in the early '80s, I was told the large metal barrels at the highway off ramps were to dispose of your beer cans. I thought they were joking.

Lmao “they’re putting in laws where you can’t drink when you want to” meanwhile there is a literal baby sitting in the front seat of your truck

This video is so funny, I almost crashed my car laughing.

Gonna be honest here, when I was a kid growing up, drinking while driving was pretty common. If fact, as a kid I honestly thought that the buckles on the seat belts were meant to be bottle openers... because thats all they were used for when driving around with my Dad...

"I drank before I got in the car." "I don't drive too fast, I'd spill my beer."

Glad to see the American desire for the government to do almost nothing has always been.

Back in the day you could drink as much as you wanted, and your horse would always take you home safe. Then we switched out horses for cars, and suddenly personal liability was a thing.

My older bro used to tell us stories of growing up in the early 80's where our dad would give him money to go buy booze and him and his friends would jump in a car at 14 years old, drive and get booze. They would show our dad's drivers license and it was times have changed.

It's like what I've been saying for years! It's the drunk crashers giving us drunk drivers a bad reputation!

I can remember how ANGRY so many supposed "adults" were about seat belt laws in the 80s. "It restricts freedom of movement!" they'd always say. And yes, a LOT of people were angry about not being able to drive drunk, as well.

"At least 1 or 2" is alcoholic code language for "at least 350 ml of hard liquor, plus at least two tall boys."

In the 90s my dad would take an insulated coffee mug filled with whiskey on family road trips. One time he got pulled over and the cop just poured out his whiskey on the side of the road, gave him back his cup and told him to slow down and have a nice day.

I was born in 1970. I still recall adults debating this issue in the late 70s. Some were for it, and some were against. Same when the law requiring seat belts was implemented as well as the laws requiring liability insurance. I remember many heated debates amongst the adults at the time. The 55mph speed limit was the one most people were against though. That was a dark time for sure ;)

The first time I ever flew on an airplane I remember taking off, getting to altitude, then the pilot turning off the no smoking sign. Immediately, about 75% of the people on the plane lit up and started smoking. I recall being very confused why the cabin of the aircraft was not filled completely with smoke because I didn't understand how cabin pressurization worked back then.

The world has changed a lot in my lifetime...

Trust me, 40 to 50 years from now, we'll look back at this era the same way, except they'll be more videos and all in 4k high definition.

The fact that this takes place in the south just feels right.

I remember my dad getting pulled over by a PA state cop for speeding on our way to a Pirates game in Pittsburgh back in the early 80s. He was drinking a 16oz IC Light at the time. The officer asked him why he was speeding, but never even mentioned the beer. My dad told him we were running late for the start of the game. He let my dad off with a warning.
He used to measure distance while driving in beers. If someone asked him how far away someplace was, his answer would be something like “3 beers…”
