Ty Stimpson:
What is underinsured are uninsured motorist coverage in Texas?
Underinsured or uninsured motorist coverage, or better known as UIM or UM coverage, is a type of insurance coverage that protects you if you are involved in a collision and the other party does not have insurance coverage or does not have enough coverage to cover your injuries or property damage.
In Texas, UIM or UM coverage is not required by law. However, your insurance agent is still required to offer you the policy and you have to reject that coverage in writing.
Now, why is UIM and UM coverage important? Well, let's say you're involved in a collision and you sustain significant injuries. If the other driver does not have enough insurance coverage to cover your medical expenses or property damage and you do not have UIM or UM coverage, you can be left holding the bag with no recourse. UIM and UM coverage protects you from these types of scenarios, so I recommend you contact your insurance agent and see, one, if you have UIM and UM coverage and two, do you have enough UIM and UM coverage to protect you if you find yourself in these situations?
