Matt, I am so happy I found this video! As someone who had to go on a 4 year hiatus, has gained weight and is about to turn 46, I am forcing myself to slow down my training. I keep wanting to run like I did before when in reality, my body needs to be fully retrained. Today I experienced inner knee pain on both knees and realized I need to rest more (this is week two and I already have 8 days running). A bit too much too fast. This video was excellent. I look forward to watching more of your work. Thank you. Instant follower. - Karen

Wow, thank you Matt! I upped my cadence (to 170 bpm, don't ask 😅) and my knees were absolutely happy for the first time in two years! Thank you :)

I have medial knee pain and this makes sense to me. I believe mine is caused by my hips being out of whack causing my left leg to be “longer” which makes it over pronate stressing the medial part of the knee. When the chiro adjusts me I’m square but it continually goes back out. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I've recently started running and now after watching the video i realized I'm over stressing, today while sprinting i landed my foot near my heel region rather than the front just after that i have started having this medial knee pain with clicking sound on my right knee... I've started applying ice and took NSAID... Now gonna take some rest
We need to ease up befote starting up anything... That I've realised... Everything in itself is a lesson

Thanks for a clear explanation. I'm trying to return to running after a long layoff, but have varus knees. This would seem to exacerbate the exact condition you describe. And in fact I'm now dealing with some medial knee pain. I've been told by one medical professional to "forget it, " that I'll never be able to do any sustained running, even though imaging shows little or no cartilage/meniscus deterioration. Do you have any experience with, or advice for, someone with varus knees?

I had my ACL repaired about 3 years ago with the intent of getting back to playing soccer again. Over the last year, I have been sidelined completely from inner knee pain. I'm aware my foot pronates inwards, and Im gathering that amongst weekness in the quad and glutes may be the culprit. I would love some suggestions on exercises or ways to further inspect my issues with running. I need help!!

Hi Matt greetings from Italy! I have been running on NB Hierros (only shoes I had ) for a month after years. I still swim and cycle but wanted to pick up running for hybrid training. Decided to step up a level and went to a local running store and they told me I need stability shoes due to my pronation. Went for NB 860. Went for a 6 km run and got medial knee pain on both knees (inside just under it ) which I had never experienced before in my life! I am very confused what shoe should I get? Should I go back to a neutral? Is it just my body getting used to the correct position forced by the stability shoe after years of pronation? I am so confused

My medial knee pain is due to Plica syndrome. Other than surgery is there a way to fix this?

Can shoes cause medial pain? I haven’t ran in over a year and I just started back up again 2 weeks ago and got new running shoes. I’ve never had any knee pain before and now im experiencing medial pain as of mid week last week and it’s getting worse. I’ve been running 1 mile per day 5 days a week.

Can this be worsened by weak ankles (that cause feet to go inwards)?

This was great info. I feel like I have a variety of issues. I do have the lateral pain on the right knee. And when I run I feel a little pain in my right hamstring. I try to stretch but I can only go so far before it starts to hurt. Both my hip flexors hurt. And at times when I lay down I feel a pull that starts from the lower back down my right buttocks down my leg. Geez I’m a hot mess!

Ill just leave a comment out of frustration is this is proibably about the 50th video i've watched where they say nothing for about 8 minutes. Answer the fucking question in less than a minute. that's all it takes. just what is the fucking answer to the question. jesus fucking christ. this isn't physiotherapy class. we're not training to be physiotherapists. we don't need to know this. we just need to know WHAT TO FUCKING DO WHEN OUR KNEES HURT
