This is exactly what it's like being in a relationship with a narcissist. And it never ends.

I feel like I've spent my whole life being manipulated because of my kindness and genuine concern for others. I've only recently started learning about boundaries. Boundaries give me the time and space to be able to figure it out. It's very painful, but necessary. I'm 64 and it's been long enough. I never ever want to be a victim, but I've allowed some really awful people to take full advantage of me and I can't anymore. Thank you for your help.

Wow! I am going to show my wife this. You describe her family perfectly, I had chills. They do this to her, and when I stand up for her, she takes their side. I hope this will help her.

I have an exact example of #2.

A “friend” kept offering to help me clear clutter, from a house I inherited. I never asked them to. But they kept offering and saying they were bored anyway. Because I really appreciated the help, I offered to take them out for meals, when they’d help me. They accepted that. But, didn’t even want things, like birthday and Christmas gifts.

But this began to change. They’d advise things like disposing of everything in the house, when I began getting money, for some of the items, although I knew that could be from their personal issues in getting rid of things. They’d suggest not having anything in the yard, which was peculiar to me, since my parents always had it decorated. They began suggesting that I rent out the top floor, for $1K/mo. Meanwhile, we hadn’t talked about me renting to anyone, especially as the top floor is half the available space. But then, one day, said they had to be out of their apartment, in a couple of months. I later found they were moving furniture from storage, back into their apartment, I guess, because I didn’t have things in order for them, according to their hidden timeframe, despite the fact that I’m in probate and at the whim of the court’s timeline.

So, this was merely a manipulation with a hidden agenda, all along. That, for what amounted to maybe 3 weeks of work, over the course of about 1-1/2 years, she was looking to get cheap rent and, likely, full house access. At it’s worse, I can tell you that I’ve seen how she treats people, be cause we’ve been living in the same complex. What she thinks is an asset, I would not have in my home. I also know that she is thorough, when it comes to knowing what she can get away with and, once let into my home, as a tenant, I might have a heck of a time getting rid of her.

Lastly, I’d bet that she’s sulking, thinking I’ve future-faked her. I never told her she could move in, I offered her meals she accepted and she had other plans, that she didn’t consult me, the homeowner about. I’d have never even felt comfortable with her there, with my pets and I’d just about bet that she’d “lose her job” just after moving in. No thank you!

27 female, child to a Narcisstic father...still living in the same house with my family. I went to therapy for a year. Pls pray for me i wanna marry my love and get out of this house.

Edit:
I am 29 now,
My fiance and i are planing to get married in a few months. I am much happier since i work towards financing my henna party and home goods to take to my home. In Turkish culture we call that "Çeyiz".
Elhamdulillah keeping myself away from anyone who is trying to manipulate me and gaslight me is helping alot. To anyone who is stuck and doesnt see the end of the tunnel: DO NOT GIVE UP! There is always a way out. Sometimes it takes time and help but you will gez there!

If only I found this sooner, maybe I would have left and not come back repeatedly. it would have saved me from some PTSD.

I’ve been in & out of therapy for maybe 10 years... maybe 20 therapists because I could never find the right one... how are you, a woman whose videos I’m just watching, helping me more than anyone else did?
I love your videos & thank you. I needed this.

This woman just described my ex-best-friend to a tee. Thank you Dr. Julie for reminding me that I made the right choice for cutting ties, even if it wasn't an easy choice. ❤️💔
