DEWALT PowerStack Vs High Output Compact 4Ah Battery With Drill, Circular Saw & Impact Driver

The DEWALT PowerStack is an amazing battery, but at this point in time, it really should be limited in use to smaller tools. The same applies to the compact 4Ah battery, at least to me.

The Pouch-Style cells in the DEWALT PowerStack are fitted on top of each other with little room for these battery cells to breathe. That lack of room seems to make these batteries run hotter on larger amp draw tools. We have very curious to see these pouch cells in a larger configuration.

It does help you understand more about the DEWALT PowerStack and also the premise of this video if you have watched the prior 5 videos. We use some of the same drills and bits so we should know the performance.

The DEWALT PowerStack is an amazing battery pack with a ton of power. It likes a bit of rest between its uses, but the performance is amazing! If this is the future, it is looking pretty amazing since we only have a very small 1P battery pack at this time. These packs in a 2P or 3P configuration would be able to power DEWALT Miter Saws, Table Saws, and heaven maybe open up larger tools to come over to battery power without a loss in power. This technology of pouch cells could do a lot of the outdoor power equipment side of the battery-powered world.

Overall, the performance of both the DEWALT PowerStack and the Compact 4 Ah were very similar.

Great channel, lots of solid videos on the power stack, thanks. At this point I’d say the power stack is equal to a high output battery(21700 cells), and is only limited by the runtime.
The 1.7 ah power stack is great for a few larger holes or dozens of smaller holes with a drill and maybe hundreds of smaller screws up to 2 “ in an impact driver or a couple larger lags. As a builder it’s a useful battery if used correctly on the right tool.
We switched to the dewalt 12v impact driver and drill for exterior trim work, using 2 1/4 “ stainless steel trimhead screws and the compact 3ah battery. You can trim all day on one battery and it’s the lightest, most comfortable set up on the market, especially hanging from your tool belt.

I agree that the Powerstack technology will be great when the run time is increased.

I been on the Dewalt platform for 16 years, what I have learn is; any of their new product always have to be revamp to make it better or for it to work correctly, e.g their tool box Tsak 1, was replaceed with Tsak 2. I would not waste money on the powerstack right now especially your video has confirmed by opinion of Dewalt new tools. Thanks for such a detail video.

Dewalt seems to be doing more with battery technology. I am a Milwaukee fan, but this Christmas season they offered nothing. Actually pretty upset with Milwaukee all they’re doing is offering the same old drill driver set that they have for the last eight years. Look at the sale Dewalt is having for 599[ flex volt] you get a drill driver in a saw, and then three free tools.

The 4ah seem way more consistent then the powerstack even with the hammer drill on drilling and the dcf850 impact driver with spades great demonstration and testing video as always Brian @WorkshopAddict

Thanks Brian, this is the video I've been waiting for 😎🛠️😎🛠️😎

Awesome work. I am more willing to say larger ah batteries with the same cells will put out more power than smaller with the same cell make up. The only reason I am willing to say this is because of measured results from TTC. well as far as impact wrenches are concerned. I dont know why that fact wouldnt transfer to other tools as well.

Well done video - the Power Stack is impressive for its size.
Thanks for a great review! :)

I like this version of the intro a lot, updated but still reminds me of the old one! 😊👍

Feels like the 4ah/3ah with 21700 should be the go to batteries, and the powerstack has its use when fully need lighter or smaller but dont want the drop in power you get wuth the 1.5 ah or 2 ah packs give you

Also with dewalt oscillator being one of the the few with battery pack being perpendicular, that tiny battery would be nice

Working over head, doing small stuff, etc

As a carpenter who does a lil of everything I try to minimize the weight of my daily drivers and usually either use my hitachi with 3ah on impact
Or my dewalt installation driver with a 3ah 12v battery

Brian, this was a very interesting and well done video. I was really surprised at how that saw was chewing through the wood with the power stack! I could detect a slight RPM gain on the 4.0 battery, but still impressive.

That new 6&1/2 saw seems to be working well for you. I am thinking of picking up the $199 Battery starter kit from Lowe’s, and pick the saw as the gratis tool. I am willing to give that saw a second chance?

I did a rough time measurement when you were drilling, and it seemed the power stack came out ahead of the 4.0 most of the time? Obviously the 4.0 will have the better runtime, but this is exciting to see this ‘new’ technology, and will be interesting to see where DeWalt will take it!

Best to you and yours this Holiday Season Brian. 👍👍👍✌🏻🌲🇺🇸

I can't wait to see this technology used in a flexvolt battery. Flexvolt batteries are so stinkin heavy!

This was EXACTLY the comparo I was looking for thanks! I have 2014-era 5ah batts that need replacing, and was looking into the 4ah compact units. Have you seen any issues with fitting into slots such as the wet/dry vac, I'm concerned the 4ah is like the 8ah in 20v size, where it's oversized for the slots on some tools.

The 4 amp compact is perfect with the dewalt 18g nailer.

Ps did pretty well considering it was up against the high output battery assault to pack for less than 110 I'll definitely get them

Thank you for continuing to share more test ...great video. I guess it is a waiting game on when dewalt announces new releases of higher amp batteries of the power stack. So not throwing out my batteries yet haha. So any inside information on any other power stack batteries coming out ?

Great videos of power stack. It’s good if you make a video about run time because no body talk about that and it’s very important. Thanks

Interesting battery test, DeWalt didn't market this new 4ah battery but I like them.
