I love that he's so honest and straightforward with the kid. I love that he talks to him like an equal, not a child. So many adults have a tendency to talk to children like they're just kids so they don't matter, and it's really so much better if you just take the couple extra minutes to win their trust.

George was the absolute GOAT.

This is why people need to stop lying about it hurting to everyone. Some people don’t want to know it hurts so you should lie to them but to those who want to know, should know. Personally, I prefer to know. I hate pain but if it’s expected, I can tolerate it better since I have chronic pain anyway. If it’s a surprise, it hurts seriously bad because my brain hasn’t had time to understand what’s going on. If the kid is refusing because it hurts then try what George did. It honestly works wonders.

This is such a good way to show a kid that yes it does hurt but it wont for very long!!! All medical professionals and providers arent supposed to lie about it hurting because that losses trust in the patient. We are taught how to tell someone it hurts and we normally never do it like this. But we always have a very calming tone and soft words, and it tends to keep people in better health!

Lying to the child would have only made it worse instead he built trust

The kid is sick enough, he's probably been told comforting lies by a lot of people and he knows they're bogus by now.

I get it kid, all those adults thinking they're trying to protect you when all you want is the damn truth. I get it.

Ok but I’ve had an iv and as a kid it rlly didn’t hurt that bad I do love how he was so straight forward and honest with the kid. Lying to him would’ve made it worse and made him angry or sad that he was lied to.

George is a sweet kind guy that showed the boy would not hurt

It also hurts when the IV port shifts and loses the vein but your nurse doesn't believe you and keeps trying to inject saline to prove you wrong. 😒

Yup. We have told our kids the truth from day one. Only one of them freaks out when she knows it's coming. The others don't. All of them know how to talk through things when they're upset or scared. After a broken arm, one of my daughters talked through the whole resetting the bone process. A mixture of "that really hurts! Can we be done now?" And "if we need to do it again I'll be okay but like that really hurts. 😂

I love how despite the fact that he was going to pull the alarm Meredith didn't lie to him. George was always the best too. I truly miss his character. I hate never being able to see who he would grow into. You know? 💔

Kids respond to the truth better than lies. An IV is going to hurt, but if you tell them that it won't, and they realize that you lied, they won't trust you. Afterwards, convincing them to do ANYTHING will be near impossible. If they can't trust people they won't take people's advice.

Fix your captioning.
It's tourniquet, not 'turn a kit'.
A 'vane' is like a weather vane.
A Vein is found in your arm.
Proofread, people.
