Grew up in SA watching the Ice Man personally wreck every opposing team. He was the epitome of unstoppable. He scored 33 points in one quarter before the 3 pointer era and could have easily scored 40 or more. He was tall and quick for a guard and his sidwinder shot was unblockable, and nobody could stop him going to the rim. He could make a shot from every single angle over anyone. What a pleasure to watch.

I am from NJ and I am a Spurs fan. As a child I was fortunate enough to go to Nets games when they played in Piscataway, NJ. We always sat behind the visitors' bench, where I saw The Iceman punish the Nets. He was sat down mid 4th qtr, it was a blowout, while we were leaving I tapped him on the shoulder and said "good game Ice", he turned to me extended his hand and said thanks. Imagine how I felt at 10yrs old shaking a superstars hand for the first time. Spurs fan for life, he was the Man!!!!

I had a chance to meet George Gervin in San Antonio while in basic training in the US Air Force. At half-time, I went down to the floor, with my USAF uniform on and he talked with me. He was both gracious and cool as a cucumber. Truly the "Ice Man."

Didn't get to see many of his live games often, more highlights than anything. But there is no doubt he is one of the most naturally gifted scorers the league has ever seen, he didn't have a weakness offensively...him, Bernard King & Alex English were something to watch. Deadly mid range games!!!

03:10 = Wait a minute! The Iceman and the Doctor? On the same team?
I don't think I ever knew about them playing together in college.

I never saw a player score 60 in slow motion! It appeared as if he was standing still, but it was like a bad dream where no matter what you did, you could do to stop him! in 1978, he was virtually tied with David Thompson for the scoring title. Thompson scored 73, and Gervin needed 59 points to win the title. He had 59 points at half time. Ended up with 63 points- IN LESS THAN 3 EFFIN QUARTERS!!! He sat out some of the 3rd, and all of the 4th. A lot of kids wanted to be Dr. J, but all of us didn't have the vertical or athleticism that he had. The majority of us wanted to be like Ice because we could do a Finger Roll lol! Wasn't the biggest, strongest, fastest, or had a great vertical, but again, HE WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP!
