What a year of ownership tells us about buying and owning a BMW X5 E53

I've got a BMW X5 2005 e53 4.8is, ive converted to LPG, it runs so much better than petrol, I've tinted the windows, 4 new tyres, xtrons head unit, id4motion instrument cluster, my X5 is without a doubt the best car I've ever owned. And only 98k miles, super low mileage! And yesterday I upgrade all the rear lights!

Bought my 2005 E53 in March 2024. The body and interior are mint. The mechanicals, not so much. It had the BMW oem 275-40-20 winter low profile tire and wheel combo giving a very harsh ride. Changed the wheel/tire combo to BMW oem 17 inch rims. Much better ride. Few leaks to fix (oil filter housing, valve cover gaskets) and front shafts replaced. Great car. Love it. I even enjoy the weighty steering. Power in abundance. Doesn't need more. Probably my last car. 78 yo long ago retired mechanic.

Fab cars on and off road. Motorway driving is also superb (with better fuel consumption of course). I have driven it in all weather across UK/Europe: heatwaves, floods, to frost, hail and snow. High speed motorway driving across several countries, plus daily off-road through forests, bogs, deep mud, river crossings and over mountainous rocky terrain. Mine is the 2005 3L Diesel version. I love it! 🙂 I was born in HK by the way.😉

Bought a 2006 X5 E53 2yrs ago for $500 USD. It was sitting on a lawn for 9mo, because the owner didn't have the $ for a new rear suspension. I've personally done the suspension, brake lines (partial), new 10" android media player and Cooper AT3 tires. After a good cleaning, she's the prettiest "fishing truck" out there! Great 3rd car "beater" for winter (Gotta keep the 5 series in the garage) 👍

Had the 2001 m54 but after a few e39s in between have picked up a 2005 m57 and loving the better fuel economy and more refined design....a joy to drive

Nice review. I am now on to my second e53, and as you said, if you get a cheap dog it can have the shirt from your back. My first was an 03 5sp manual 3.0d, finally got all the gremlins out when a 6sp 05 3.0d sport came up. A totally different experience, been a fantastic car. Usual stuff...drop links, calipers sticking etc. But what a car and till feels very contemporary even 15 years on. Subscribed.

Great review and I just purchased an e53 this past week and hopefully pick it up tomorrow! Pretty excited, only a 2 owner car with 56 service records attached to the VIN with 101k miles. This video makes me even more excited!

love the e53 prefer the steering has more feel to it, as the e70 is electric steering which i dont like as much, the e53 some how has more charactor great video, love hong kong.

I have a BMW X5 2004 model 3 liter it drives amazing so comfortable to drive.. only problem I've had is a door handle brake the inner cost alloy common problem other than that they are awesome I was going to buy a 4.4 l V8 and that was a beautiful looking car airbag suspension panamera sunroof after doing a bit of research I am glad that I bought the free leader we've just a normal sunroof

Well I've been playing with the need of buying another BMW and a out two months back thought yeah first gen X5 and I've been watching loads of vids on them the diesel 3.0 Vs 3.0i and I've been swayed from one to another but after watching this vid I'm going with the m54 3.0i and I feel right about it I really much prefer petrol then diesel I've got a e39528i & e60530i so I think the 3.0i X5 seems about right

My father in law bought the 3.0 petrol row 6 y reg so its 2000 . He drived back home from Uk to Hungary :) we do e the service new brakes etc etc he said it was a dream to drive
