The reason gold and silver have been valued for thousands of years is because of the TIME, MONEY, AND EFFORT it takes to bring it out of the ground. It's RARE! Rare is valuable. It's that simple. We have a population full of "medical professionals". People will seek you out of you have those skills. Barter with them!

And then there is crypto another fiat currency. I tell my buddies to get gold and silver. But crypto is unregulated. Um the government will regulate it when it is a threat to the dollar. What happens to that crypto when cyber warfare takes down the net. You can't hold it in your hand. But gold and silver can be held in your hand and easily trade.

I've been replacing all my buttons with sterling silver buttons on my shirts, pants, etc. Sometimes the best place to hide something is right out in the open.

History proves what he said about gold & silver, I agree BUT don't blow what little money you may have on it UNTIL you have stocked up on food and other items that you can actually use to live in the mean time.

One thing I stock up on for barter is mesc screws bolts and nails. Whenever I see them at a garage sale I grab them normally for next to nothing. When someone needs to fix their tractor or generator and there’s no more stores to buy parts they will become incredibly valuable, the other one is cheap tools I bought 20 spade shovels at a garage sale for $20, there’s no real dyi replacement for modern manufacturing for a lot of these basic items

Liquor, cigarettes, nail clippers, knives, scissors, clothing, shoes, antibacterial salve, bandages, needle and thread, reading glasses, toothache gel, matches, lighters, salt, sugar. I can't think of anything else right now. Haven't seen your other videos of barter items. I'll go look.

I've been recycling candle wax for over 20 years. Been collecting molds and wicking along the way. The wax has been sorted by color, melted, and poured into small loaf pans. The wax loaves easily pop out of the pans when cooled. Fifty loaves fit perfectly into a regular size storage box. Paraffin wax is a petroleum product which has doubled in price over the last few years. Even after making candles all along the way, I still have over a ton left. This is my ace in the hole.

Essential oils
colloidal silver
Distilled water
vinegar (all types)
Rubbing alcohol
Baking soda
natural healthcare items
Seeds
Herbs
Honey
Items to make tinctures/salves
Knowledge
A small library people can reference with pencils/note cards/paper for them to take notes, trade the access to your books.
Material, thread, needles, sewing supplies

I'm a nurse, a masage therapist, hypnotherapist, essential oil/natural health lover & healer. Obviously I'd plan on trading my healing modalities.

(Also as a nurse, there's some people in the field I wouldn't want taking care of me in normal conditions let alone when SHTF!) JUST SAYING

Agreed!
I see our medical returning to old fashioned medicinal remedies & herbology! My gram was a midwife an dads side was native healing.
I remember when doctors used to make house calls🤣 basically he’d come, ask gram what she’d been doing for me-mind you she only called him when she couldn’t fix it which was rare! Then he’d give her a little bottle of drops, tell her what it was an be on his way!
I watched everything that woman ever made wether it was food or meds!
I’ve been building my own medicine cabinet for years an help anyone who needs it or asks. Great bartering tool.

Might I suggest how-to books? We've been homesteading in Maine for 7 years. We happen to have books, LOTS of books, that are educational, almost every possible how-to subject. We live in a very small village with a little library. I have to admit, knowing that the crash is coming, I have even "staked out" the local library for all of the educational books. Think locally. We have found some small niches to make money and use for barter, that most people don't have access to around us. For instance, no one has LGD's anywhere near us and we have Great Pyrs, (and we're the only people in this village that don't regularly lose livestock to predators). We also breed geese and barter/sell them for 'guard dogs'. You can laugh all you like at that, but having almost every known predator here in Maine, they sure do come in handy and let you know when something's around! We attempt to think "outside the box".

I know that alcohol and tobacco will be on that list, I do not smoke or drink, but other people do. Fire wood for those who heat their homes with wood. Small engine repair and chain saw. If there isnt any electric, having solar cells and a way of charging batteries will be in demand. Rechargable items like lights, or batteries will also be in demand. Building and selling rocket stoves for cooking.

I do a lot of prospecting.
I know not all of us can have a gold mine. The two main minerals I mine are gold and galena.
3 things that never go zer0 land precious metals and guns. They may drop in value but they are always worth some value.

Shredded tobacco you can find in huge bags in any gas station or truck stop. Been buying tons of this stuff for trade item. Folks trade NOW for it. Let alone later. Lol

We followed Dave Ramsey to get out of debt. But I could never get myself to invest in stock markets. I didn't like the idea of not physically having our money. My husband works way too hard to trust someone else with it.

I have silver rods for making colloidal silver. I think that reusable sanitary pads for women would be a great barter item if one has a stockpile of the fabric and a treadle sewing machine. Also the ability and knowledge to forage and sell or barter foraged items as well as homemade personal care items.

I have a little silver. I recently learned how to make soap. Thinking that will be a good item to barter. Have a stock of supplies for that purpose. 😀

If you are buying gold and silver, think ahead and buy grams or 10'ths so that you don't box yourself into overpaying too much for something you are desperate for. Otherwise, I see gold and silver best used for transporting wealth from point-a to point-b, and also for very large purchases. For regular day to day transactions, I would primarily rely on bartering for/with items that have a high utility/usefulness; tools, food, medicine, fabric, etc. To be sure, I do not expect to be able to make change if someone offers me 1oz or larger gold or silver bullion for some of my tools, food, medicine, fabric, etc. and I won't expect anyone else to either.
