dude i was hitting side laterals today with a buddy. He is new and his mind muscle connection is what we are working on. I could not for the life of me figure out why his traps were engaging. Now I can correct myself for a better shoulder pump and help my buddy too.

You can use side lateral DB raises to deliberately isolate the upper traps, as long as you're not trying to work the deltoids at the same time, and not trying to lift the same amount of weight as when working the deltoids.

from the age of 16-30 i have been doing side dealt/trap raise no wonder my traps are so big. and to make matters worse i finished with heavy DB shrugs

I can see where you’re coming from and thanks for the post. However, since the trap is still in the superior aspect of the A-P GH axis, wouldn’t the trap be equally as involved? Especially if all of the tissue coming along for the ride throughout the excursion? Love that your focusing more on the Mechanics! 👊
