Don't Tie Your Self-Worth to Your Work

Sometimes I feel like identifying as a creative person itself is part of the problem. Because I see myself as a creative person and like creative things, I therefore must do creative things. I know the power of identity can be a good motivator to keep on the desired track, but I can't help but feel like its doing more harm then good in this case, at least for me. I'm sure school system + parents programmed by subconcious to only see myself as valuable upon delivering good work, even for stuff I hated, but being creative never meant anything to anyone else for me.

Now it just feels impossible to do stuff and I'm at the crossroads of leaving the nest whilst having next to nothing to start to make a living off of. Creative stuff is supposed to be my meal ticket, but everything I did in college is garbage and there is such a steep learning curve for the things I wanna do, primarily game design, that self learning is does not facilitate well. Anyway, I really appreciate you sharing your experince. I may check out more of your vids later.

Super interesting video. I don’t have the same experience exactly, but I struggle with the same basic concept in that I’ve for a long time have tied my self worth to my grades, and untangling that has been the main focus of this past year for me. I think a big part for me was realising what I’m missing out on when I don’t let things outside of school be a priority as well.
