In this video I play a 9 hole scramble with the Callaway Chrome Soft vs the Titleist ProV1. I hit every shot with each ball to see which ball is better.

I have been going back and forth between the Chrome Soft and the ProV1 all season and I can't determine which ball I like better. So, to settle this, I am playing the balls against each other.

You will get to see every shot with each ball over a 9 hole round of golf and the conclusions and data after the round is over.

Is the Chrome Soft better for the short game?
Is the ProV1 better for the the long game?
Does the Chrome soft spin more or less?
Does the ProV1 match up to the hype?

I have always played the ProV1 and our course today was soaking wet. I lost my ProV 1 and decided to try the Chrome Soft. I couldn't believe how nice it felt coming of the driver. My buddies told me I was a lot longer with the chrome soft than the ProV1. I still need to test more. But, I am liking what I saw today with the Chrome soft.

Did the same test myself and got totally opposite results regarding distance, i hit high spin so lower spinning callaway went further, callaway definitely straighter and higher flight, agree pro v1 spins better on short chips around the green easier to & stop flies lower, thus I'm using the chrome soft as my winter ball, and pro v1x as my summer ball purely for the additional check on harder summer greens.

I had similar results. Loved the way the Chrome Soft felt but it was a shorter playing ball. They went into the "play them when I'm playing by myself" ball until their all gone. However, I have had a lot of wonderful scores with the ball so the yards lost didn't make a difference in my HDC.

Have used both balks and found them to be on a par with eachother, however the Chrome Soft offers a price advantage. Thanks for a comprehensive comparison.

I just tried the chrome soft with red hexagons, from originally playing pv1 on the same course and I shot better straighter shots. With the chrome! Only lost one ball <opposed to 3or more w/pv1> due to water and thats because it went further than expected from my pv1 shot on the same hole. I also feel I focused on the hexagons while swinging resulting in phenomenal shots like a 253 3h iron <ben Hogan apex edge > on the green in 2, ... three feet from pin! I usually hit my 3w 250... to put in prospective. I know I have "old clubs" but they work just fine.

I don’t think my swing is quick enough for the proV 1 but having read Rays comment below I may try it as my summer ball. Love the Truvis tho, shows how much spin you get and the roll on a putt

Very informative, Thanks
Some of my fellow golfers have switched to the Chrome. I have not and will not switch. I do not drive as long as you(avg 250), all other shots same clubs for distant.
For me inside 120 to the pin, the PRoV1 is money. Thanks again

You should try the Wilson Duo Optix golf balls. I love em and they are half the price of the pro v1. Soft around the greens and long distance with good control.

I have found that for my swing, speed, ect. I actually get more distance with it than the pro v1 nothing you can really measure that would make a difference. I have had great results with both. For me I prefer the chrome soft triple track and the chrome soft truvis.

Played 5 holes using pro v1 callaway chrome soft and super soft.
I’m 66 yo, been playing for 30 years, got a 16 handicap and a 90-95 mph driver swing speed.
The pro v1 is definitely the best one. Distance, feel, sound, approach.
But only if you hit it perfectly on the sweet spot. If not then the 105 compression is gonna give you a hard time.
The chrome soft is the one which went the furthest on average over the 5 holes.
The super soft goes as far as the titleist (when not hit on the sweet spot) but above all it’s the one that goes the straightest however you hit it.
to summarize it's difficult to make a choice but I think I'll stay on the supersoft because it's the one that forgives the most and goes the straightest. It’s also the cheapest one.
I remain convinced that the most important to get a good score is to always hit straight and send the ball more or less in the middle of the fairway. it is much more important than go very far but anywhere around the fairway.

Very fair review!!! Didn’t know the Titleist was longer. Very interesting

I have played both, and can play them interchangeably. I’m an 8, and it would take someone at +2 or something, to really discern the differences between them. Even in your chipping and putting, just watching, you can tell that there were differences in the quality of swing and contact. For example, the first chip in the video, the Callaway was way shorter, but if you watch it, you hit well behind the ball...you can even hear it. Not picking because God knows we all do that from time to time...
I’ll tell you the worst thing about a ProV1, is that they aren’t pure white...they are more of a pearly color, and they continue to get darker as being used. Callaway, Bridgestone, TM, all have bright white your balls.

Golf ball, comparison individual, and so random on driver..great video still.. I've always liked pro v 1 near the green tho. I think, a, human can come to a reasonable comparison on short game..I do well

with chromesoft near green as well, I just know it may release a bit more. At times feels like an advantage.. I just love the soccer balls when putting, love seeing the spin, and quickly identifying my balls when play, g with my group, who uses prov1 and Nike

Not a bad video... Pro v1 being a 3 piece will release more, the Chrome Soft being a 4 piece will have less release but more drop and stop on greens (meant for more aggressive players). Try the same vid with a Titleist velocity (2 piece) and a Callaway Supersoft (2 piece), you'll be surprised...

What does machine analysis say? I find it hard to believe Callaway would produce a ball shorter than a pro-v1 as very few golfers would give up that kind of distance. This would result in lost sales and revenue!
