A street tree in Manhattan shows us that human lives are intimately connected to trees. What is true for a single city tree is also true for the life-giving but threatened bond between people and forests worldwide. David Haskell’s work integrates scientific, literary, and contemplative studies of nature. His first book, "The Forest Unseen," was a finalist for the 2013 Pulitzer Prize in nonfiction and received numerous honors
including the National Academies’ Best Book Award. Haskell’s latest book, "The Songs of Trees," examines biological networks through the lives of a dozen trees around the world. The book was the winner of the 2018 John Burroughs Medal, named one of the Best Science Books of 2017 by NPR’s Science Friday, among other honors. Haskell is a Guggenheim Fellow and a Professor at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN, where his classes have received national attention for combining action in the community with contemplative practice.

I will never look at a city tree in the same way again. Thank you!

I am going to visit that TREE at Broadway & 86 street today. A great reason for me to visit that neighborhood.

I have made many many tree friends in Manhattan and Queens. My tree friends are always there for me.
In my eyes, I see a lot more trees than people in Manhattan. And that makes me a happy and relaxed New Yorker. It's just a matter of focus.

I don't disagree entirely. But, the relationship between two individual sovereign entities, does in no way void their sovereignty. Nor, does their sovereignty void their relationship. However, if both decide to establish a mutually dependent symbiotic relationship, Then they have to live with that relationship, or find a mutually agreeable way to dissolve that relationship, so that they don't kill each other.

You can hug a tree but don’t hug too tight or they’ll bark.

Trees breathe in co2 into their leaves and expel oxygen which makes people feel good.
