I uploaded another clip where Dr. Jung explains the self in a more simple way here's the link:

It's very amusing to see someone like Jung talking in this manner. Feels like you're watching Socrates or Napoleon in real time.

Carl Jung had such a powerful intuition that he could predict and visualize the events based on person's behavior using his intuitive observational abilities. He is truly a blessing to humanity ! Great fan of him <3

When I was in high school a band I liked sampled this and I listened to the tape while I was on mushrooms. Changed my life.

Dr. Jung is the only person during my studies to obtain my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology that combined the spiritual realm with the illusion of human consciousness. It is quite vast and obviously infinite as he postulated that we are all connected in the collective. He was right.

The self is by far the most profound aspect of being human. It is astonishing that we are not who we believe ourselves to be. Instead who we actually are reaches out to us from within (in dreams, intuition, sensations, hunches, synchronicities etc) through the identity that we assume ourselves to be to to instruct us and reveals our true nature to each of us. It blows my mind. I don’t believe in a Christian god but I am absolutely certain that this was meant to be the message of every religion - that our true nature is internal and we must be willing to go within to find it and realise it. We can never become who we really are (the Self) by trying to find ourselves outside of ourselves in the external world. It’s all within each of us.

There are pressures in society that push you into a singularity of behavior. You have to take a stand. This might be interpreted as ego, as opposed to clarity and right action. There are tricksters out there. The sociopaths and narcissists who will take advantage of your naivety about the darker intentions of others and who want to bring forth noise and confusion. Tough to keep your act together. Have fun in your dreams. There you run the show.

the ego only consists of what it is conscious of but you know to be your-self

The most difficult thing in life is not to fool yourself. And you are easy to fool.

I am 100% convinced that most if not all sentient animals (dogs, cows, pigs, rats, birds, etc.) have a self. I'm sure most of them also have an ego, they don't always act on immediate wants and needs. Think of hunting, or any social interaction, with roles, hierarchy and politics, that implies waiting, hiding, doing X in order to get Y, sometimes far in the future.

Yup, we humans are full of potentials. We have no idea

At the beginning, he doesn’t say that is only your “hypothetical” self, he says “empirical self”. Correct the text

In my opinion, the ego is identity, such as I am a rich person, or I am an educated person, defining yourself by your worldly experience. Then you have to explain what is self and that would be the larger self or the soul identity, which is the Consciousness of authentic self. They are one and the same. The ego isn’t negative or positive, it’s just immature.

In a time when loneliness is rampant, when a person can be surrounded by a group of people and feel even more alienated than being alone, the Wise Old Man comes to teach us the forgotten art of solitude, the voluntary withdrawal from society and the ability to make a smooth transition back into the world again when it is time to return. Those who have neglected their inner self to the extent that they exist solely in relation to others, have failed to listen to this inner voice. Their self-identity relies exclusively on others, so they lose themselves in the crowd. There comes a time, however, when one is forced to turn inwards, when one realises that one must accept the lonely path to self-realisation, in order to attain peace.

what's strange is I already thought like this before being introduced to Psych (I just watch observe and ask questions) and reading this mans works is like decades of my own thoughts expressed in way I couldn't actually put into words.
