Earn Your Film Degree, Online

Kristen Semedo, moved to California from Boston, and embarked on a career in film. While working in the film industry, Semedo knew that the missing piece was finally earning her bachelor’s degree. “I was getting on-set experience, which is what a lot of people go to film school for is to get on-set experience,” Semedo said. “So really for me, it was either go back online or don't go at all.” Semedo did her research and ultimately decided to earn her Bachelor of Arts in film and media studies online at Arizona State University. Semedo added, “the only online option was ASU because of the quality.” Semedo graduated in May 2024, and since then has been making a name for herself in the film industry. Semedo wrapped on her first short film that she wrote and directed called Vermin, which is an ultra-short horror film, and she was chosen as a finalist at FilmQuest in Utah for another short script she wrote called Deadlock. After getting the notification that I was a finalist at FilmQuest for the short screenplay category, it really occurred to me that I couldn't have possibly had the courage to submit, nor would the quality of my writing be noticed without my experience at ASU.”
