CLIMBING IN DEATH ZONE

preview_player
Показать описание
Body laying on the side of climbing route to the Everest summit in the death zone. All 14 peaks above 8000m in the death zones are located in the Himalayan range and Karakoram of Asia. In mountaineering, the death zone refers to altitudes above a certain point where the pressure of oxygen is insufficient to sustain human life for an extended time span. This point is generally tagged as 8,000 m, where it is less than 356 millibars of atmospheric pressure. The human body functions best at sea level where the atmospheric pressure is 1013.25 millibars at sea level.

Many deaths in high-altitude mountaineering have been caused by the effects of the death zone, either directly by the loss of vital functions or indirectly by wrong decisions made under stress, or physical weakening leading to accidents. An extended stay above 8,000 meters (26,247 ft) without supplementary oxygen will result in worsening of bodily functions and death.

His body was retrieved a month ago by sherpas, 12 years after his death.

Rest in peace!

I think more videos like this should be shown. Mountaineering is beautiful but dangerous. Why hide the reality of what might happen

People really dont understand mountaineering/climbing:
1. This is real, that is what a dead body looks like in sub zero temperatures
2. This man's name was Milan Sedláček, he was a Czech mountaineer who successfully climbed shishapangma, but died here on Lhotse
3. You cant retreive dead bodies from large mountains. It is too dangerous for the rescue team, very difficult logistically and helicopters cannot fly in those conditions.
4. All mountaineers know what the risks are (or should anyway), but it is their liberty and passion to take on those odds, some unfortunately dont make it. You, sat there on your sofa watching youtube, arent really in a position to judge.
5. This should serve also to remind us that Sherpas deserve waaay more recognition (and pay) for their jobs, it's no joke.

It’s crazy to think all those bodies were once highly ambitious people

The scariest thing about this is he was literally doing exactly what you’re doing at this moment when he died.

He is Milan Sedláček, just under the Lhotse summit, at around 8500m. He died in 2012.

This would be the point at which I turned around and went home.

When you start seeing deceased attempting the same feat. Does it ever make you feel like, I should not do this? That has to be terrifying.

Finally after 12 years, he finally will return to his homeland Czech Republic, thanks to the recovery team.😊

Glad to hear that he was finally recovered and sent back home to his family for a proper burial. There is one picture of him although unknown timeline but looked fairly recent after death; Jacket was still quite red and not torn/faded, face was in full form although it looked sunken in his cheeks but he may have high cheek bones in life.

So many frozen in time marking Mount Everest route, some found 20-500 years later still preserved. Mount Everest is a physical visual journal of climbers ambitious efforts to climb near death .

What exactly was the cause of death? Asphixiation? Exhaustion? Heart failure? Nitrogen poising? So mamy things.
