It just occurred to me that a $20 knockoff USB-C pencil that I bought 4 years ago will work EXACTLY as well as the new Apple Pencil 3! 😮

I use the Apple Pencil 2 everyday for signature with customers. This is a step back. Not having magnetic charging and pairing is a big miss.

the hover and pressure sensitivity are some of the best features about the Apple Pencil. tbh the additional 50$ tag is well worth it, pairing and snap charging are icing for me... if you are gonna use your iPad for art and drawing, no matter if pro or casual get the 2nd gen. I cant see myself using ProCreate or Affinity without these features. else i'd rather get a 3rd party for way less...

This is NOT Apple Pencil 3. More like Pencil SE. (Affordable cheaper option) The Pencil 2nd generation has a lot more features. Your title is a little misleading.

They left in the tilt sensitivity, but took out the pressure sensitivity?? Shouldn't it be the other way around??

I think this is a great choice for the silent giant population of people who just want a stylus from Apple without having to spend so much money. I myself have the 2nd gen but don’t draw and just like using it to navigate around the tablet so this would’ve been perfect for me back when I got my stuff

That new design says, keep the Apple Pencil second generation. I do agree they did take some features away that should have been left alone. That’s called regression. Instead of going forward they decided to go backward.

I think the reason why they made it not pressure sensitive is because they are aiming to make it compatible to both high end and low end ipads. Pressure sensitivity relies on both software and hardware. Upgrading the hardware means they need to release new devices and the pencil would cost more.

Odd new addition to the Apple Pencil lineup is the biggest understatement. This feels like a waste of time and resources when its price point is in the same range as a few other great stylus tools from Zagg, Logitech et al.

I have the first and second pencils. I use them with painting, editing and technical drawing. The pressure sensitivity is useful and even necessary for painting and a number of other uses. But it’s not used with technical drawing, CAD or a number of other activities. So how useful this one is depends on what you’re doing.

I have been using two Chinese knock off pencils from Amazon and they have a price range of $16-$30 depending on the day. One has tilt sensitivity and the other one does not and neither one has pressure sensitivity. I am a creative but I'm not an artist, I am a musician and an idea person - I love to take notes, I like to sketch crudely. I cannot believe how useful these cheap knock-off pencils are. I can draw with them in Procreate, so much fun! I make greeting cards with them in Procreate, I use them all the time to take notes in my different note apps, and all script that I write in these note apps can search handwriting off-line, a remarkable feat, they charge fast with USB-C, they shut off automatically if I forget to shut them off, I never have to pair them to my basic iPad or now my iPad Pro. They work automatically, without a Bluetooth setting to worry about, I just love them and I don't understand why people are buying the hugely overpriced Apple brand unless they're a super high-end designer or artist that needs pressure sensitivity when for under $30 and often times half that price these other pencils are supremely useful. Just my two cents worth. Peace and happiness to everyone.❤

Apple Pencil 2 all life. Easy pairing, and easy for me to recharge.

I think it is fair for this USB-C Apple Pencil to not have pressure sensitivity. I imagine they made this one to compete with the alternative styluses, like the Crayon and other look alike clones which also don't have pressure sensitivity but are much cheaper by comparison

I believe this is just the Apple Pencil SE and not the Apple Pencil 3 looking at the comparison sheet!

Can’t see the point of an apple pencil without pressure sensitivity would certainly recommend people try both types out before buying.

No pressure sensitivity is a complete deal breaker for me!

They have released more information or you have missed it but the new pencil is just like the old one but better, it will have all the pressure support, the same charging by magnetically attaching to the side AS WELL as having the option to plug it in, and it will also have a squeeze function with haptic feedback to allow you to select different writing tools and sizes of said tools. Finally it will also recognize when you are tilting and rolling the pencil so you can access different sides of the tool and it will show a preview when you are hovering over the ipad so you know what your tool will look like and how it will act before you actually use it.
