The non pressure sensitive pen needs to be below 50$

If Apple was going to not make the new Apple Pencil have Pressure Sensitivity then they should have just included it with every iPad EXCEPT the iPad 9 . And discontinued that iPad and the first generation pencil and then if you really need those features make the consumer pay for the Generation 2 Pencil and drop the price down just a bit to $110.
9 times out of 10 most consumers would still go buy that Generation 2 Pencil because those extra features would be that important to them. So they wouldn’t need to really worry about sales. Just my opinion 😊

So now we have the Apple Pencil, the Apple Pencil Air and the Apple Pencil Pro. It all makes sense now! 😮

I don’t think there is anything wrong with a budget pencil. The issue is the naming. There should be a Pencil and a Pro Pencil and that’s it. That would be easier for consumers to understand.

In my head, this new pencil replaces Gen 1 pencil because the basic iPads have had usb-c since 2022. But there’s still a lot of older iPads out there so Gen 1 will continue to be around while updates continue for 2019 and older iPads which I believe ends in 2024.
I have a Gen 2 pencil for my iPad Air gen 5, which continues to make sense for Air 5, Mini 6, and Pro’s.

Totally agree that there are too many iPad choices. One needs to go, as long as they don't touch my mini though. LOVE that thing!

Just to share my opinion on third party pencil alternatives. I bought the Adonit Neo Pro and I'm super happy with it. It attaches and charges magnetically, the tip is just like the Apple Pencil, I never ran out of battery, overall a really good value for the price. It is lighter and feels less premium, and you do have to turn it on by holding the top button, but those are small details that are totally worth the money I saved.

the new one kinda feels like the cheap third party offerings... I got my sister a cheap 25$ ugreen one, that has magnetic charging, tilt sensitivity and works really well, all it's missing is pressure sensitivity and the touch quick action, but it makes up for it by allowing you to use the rear button for that purpose.

Without pressure sensitivity, it has no advantage over alternative styluses at around USD$20, which comes with USB-C charging, similar shape (so fits in whatever standard case pen holder), is magnetic, AND has battery indicator lights. I have one after my Gen 1 developed battery issues, and the accuracy is INSANE. Up to par with Apple pencil, with the only downside being no pressure sensitivity.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I’m fine with my Apple Pencil (2nd generation). Blessings on your day!

This is just a marketing technique. When you introduce a mid-priced product option that doesn't make the cut for quality, suddenly people buy the most expensive option. Without this mid-tier pencil that lacks features, fewer people would buy the highest priced version.

makes sense to me when you look at the prices. USB C new one = $79 ( no pressure sensitivity). Apple Pencil 1st gen = $99 ( Hey! +$20 gives you pressure sensitivity. Make sense) and lastly top of the line Apple Pencil 2nd Gen = $129 (top price for top of the line) You may not see it a good, better, best. But that is really what it is. just because the gen 1 still has old school charging it does not make it the worse one as you imply in the video.

I like the electric blue cover. Who manufactures it?

Great video. The show Macbreak Weekly’s panel suggested this addressed some issues the education sector had. Schools purchase iPads at huge volume but they tend to be base models kept longer.

7:36 no no no you forgot to mention the iPad mini. The mini 6 supports Apple Pencil 2

Easy solution to the Gen 1 Apple Pencil - get a great gripping cover. I actually use the same grip on both my Gen 1 and Gen 2 pencils. IMO coming up with yet another pencil is silly.

All Apple Pencils should have that USB port for charging. It would be nice to have the option to charge the pencils off the iPad in addition to the magnetic charging.

Wonderful overview on the Apple pencil! What is the battery life on it? Also my iPads are in cases. How does the pencil charge when the iPad is in a case?

Apple should have included magnetic wireless charging on the 10th generation iPad so that all current generation iPads are compatible with the 2nd generation Apple Pencil. Done!
