Watching your progression lately has been very inspiring, James. I have put a very heavy emphasis on my wedges (52, 58) and putting just as you have. Completely transformed my game. So, a big thanks to you my friend.

I just started golfing maybe two months ago. I can’t wait to play decent enough so I can actually keep score

This was actually what I needed!!! I’m trying to break 90 and I 3 putt and miss a lot of greens. Thanks for the Amazing content!!

Best part was on the putting. I see so many guys thinking they should sink the longer putts. As a weekend player, you realistically can’t expect to sink anything over 5’ away with regularity.

My issue with the 3-5 foot putts is mainly mental. If I hole the first couple then I stay positive for the round and stroke them in…but when I miss one early then I get tentative and uncertain and end up missing 2 or 3 more of them. Not only that but when I am low in confidence on them it affects my long putting and I seem to leave myself a lot of them.

3 quarter swings are a good rule of thumb. Say my driver feels off. Instead of going 3 wood I’ll still use driver but 3/4 swing and get through the ball. Same with pitching. Have a hole 405 par 4 first hole. It’s downhill so on a good drive I can be 75 yards off. I started using a 52 instead of a full 60 at 3/4 swing and almost instantly hit more greens. Also I think a 3/4 swing but club up is more reliable than trying to take something off

I'm convinced that everyone who plays this game has a streak when they play lights out for a time, before they slide back into their normal, swear word generating standard of play.
I'm a 14 handicap, but this week I have been tearing it up, breaking 80 three times this week on 6500 yards of par 72.
I've gotten some real improvement in my swing this year, which straightens my long clubs out, but the real payoff has come inside 100 yards, with pitching and chipping. I am no great putter, but even I can sink 8 footers and in, so I have been one putting more greens than I have two putted this week. Getting the ball within 10 feet of the cup, with the short game, has made that possible.
I am going to enjoy this while it lasts, and try to hold off the dreaded return to normal as long as I can. LOL

My playing partner had a lesson with Chris the other week and turned up for the Saturday comp and shot a 76 got in the 2s club twice and never more than 2 putted. Goes to show drives for show putts for dough.

Love that Chris has somewhat acccepted that you are going to go to the 60 most of the time. Personally I find using my 58 and being more positive with my swing produces better strikes and results. When I try little bump and runs I tend to get more Damiens!

Type of putter you use has an impact on your strike of the ball when putting... hot putters Insert face, flat face or mild face, feel and weight of a putter are important to have confidence when putting . My technique I developed over years has help me putt better ... soft grip with index fingers straight down putter grip ( right handed golf) left elbow out to target and push through ball instead of hitting it ... short putts I use a square stance and midrange to long putts I use a slightly open stance to see line bettered to the hole like Jack Nicklaus ...this technique keeps the putter face stay square at impact .
I have used a Ping Dale Anser putter form the 70’s for about 40 years just never found anything that feels as good putting until about a few years ago and upgrade to a Ping Dale Sigma 2 putter it has a great feel a roll coming off the milled face 👍

Putter shaft length is crucial. Im 6'1" and finally went to a 35" shaft and its made a world of difference. That and ive switched to a left handed grip (im right handed) and i havent 3 putted since.

3 putts are the “bane” of my life, the dreaded ‘Y’s have returned on the short putts, I may even have to resort to putting with lob wedge again, the ‘Y’s returned last Thursday and it’s driving me mad. Doesn’t happen on practice green. Will keep at it, hopefully will get back to normal soon.

Thank you for another great informational video. James, I believe your 60 degree wedge chipping and pitching successes, are attributed to your excellent and consistent ball striking. My personal experience with chipping around the greens. Is mostly about figuring my lie into the greens. Yes I sometimes over think it. But using a 7, 8, 52, 56, or my 60 to chip or pitch on, for different lies, really helps me settle down and focus on each shot. Keep up the great work. Cheers!
