Why You Shouldn't Just Cut The Mold Off Old Bread

It's more than OK if you don't completely understand mold and food. Sometimes it's bad. Other times, it's fine. It can even make some foods, like certain types of cheeses, better. It's also true that it's perfectly acceptable to just cut the visibly moldy part off of some foods, because the rest is fine.

That's not the case with all foods, though, and unfortunately, if there's visible mold on your bread, the whole loaf is pretty much done for. Unlike more solid foods such as vegetables and hard cheeses, which can be saved through some surgery, bread is all moldy if any of it is. Here's why you shouldn't just cut the mold off bread.

What do you do when you find mold on your bread?

Bread nowadays with all the crap in it doesn't even mold anymore unless it's actually "homemade"

I always throw it in the trash, because I don't think it's fit to eat 🤢

I'll never forget the time I bought some fresh sub type buns from Sams. I figured they could stay in the lower cupboard- cool and dry. Needless to say they all molded up. Refrigerator from that point on...

Throw bread in fridge? Sheldon Cooper disagrees with this take

I cut the mold off cheese and eat it but not on any thing else. My mothers family starved during the war and they ate everything and anything. Keeping that in mind I don't waste food.

I like the blue fuzz. It gives my sandwich a tangy flavor. It also makes my wind smell rambunctious.

Dont ever buy cheap bread in dollar stores. They are usually sold cheap b/c the expiration date is close. They also have a high chance of being moldy.

We used to get fresh bread everyday when they had a bread factory in Decatur Illinois but they close that and the potato chip factories but we still have ADM and Staley's and it doesn't smell good

Funny thing, moldy bread was the basis of penicillin, an anti biotic. Thank Sir Alexander Fleming for that.

I surely would not eat any of these foods. They would go right in the garbage. I try to eat my fresh produce up as fast as I can and not keep them in the Frig for weeks on end, plus only buy as few as possible so the last ones dont spoil or get mold.
