Join Joe Rogan as he sits down with Brian Cox, physicist and science communicator, to discuss the possibility of alien life in our solar system. From microbes on Mars to the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, they explore the idea that life may exist beyond Earth. With a look at the history of life on our planet and the conditions that allow for complex carbon chemistry to occur, they discuss the potential for biochemistry to become active geochemistry on other worlds. Don't miss this fascinating conversation on the search for extraterrestrial life. #jre #joerogan #shorts

joe is the only "interviewer" to start with a question and end it with a question

We are here. Ergo, the universe can support life. It follows that in billions upon billions of galaxies, life has likely found some favorable spots to evolve.

Love how Brian Cox simplifies such deep concepts as space and time.

The one thing that I've always thought about, and this is just an example, let's say that some other intelligent life exists on other planets. My thoughts were always that this intelligent life, must have evolved on other planets in ways differing that of our own. I mean there are likely many similarities, but that's always been my thoughts.

Pretty sure he was correct. Didn’t they find a ancient bacteria that they estimated to be hundreds of millions of years old?

Just a few years ago the smart ones claimed there was no planets going around other stars. We were special. We are NOT special.

It’s so much more complicated than that: we think the conditions and ingredients are everywhere around us bc we are here… yet looking out into space there is 0 evidence of complex multicellular life. Even if aliens exist we likely will never know… unless we find a way to break out of our own laws of physics…

The background music is unnecessarily loud.

Hate the stupid, distracting music though.

The problem now is we have dropped so much stuff on mars we probably took bacteria there. like insects on a ship

Imagine where they evolved a million years ago and have spent the whole time persuing technology, not art and all the other things that we do just furthering technology. Look how much we achieved in the last 100 years with all the other things but if we only persued one goal..

Interesting. Every animal have fur or protective layer for the element of the weather. How did we survive with no protective layers? Are we even from this planet ? How did we survive?

As the temperature of our sun has evolved, so to has the habitable zone around it. As the sun was hotter earlier in the universe perhaps mars was in the hospitable zone with abundant life. On a side note.. maybe mars could hold onto it's atmosphere and be hospitable again if there were some way to increase it's mass. Maybe we could crash the moon into it?

Spontaneously elements say let's arrange ourselves in a way to create life !

Why can’t we recreate the creation of life with chemistry then?
