Finally a show on the possibilities of alien life that's not filled with egocentric human bias.

It's not like earth has the perfect conditions for life. Nature found it's way and adapted to these conditions. Life elsewhere likely couldn't survive on earth and vice versa.

It's easy to imagine some ammonia-based lifeforms thinking about water and saying, "no way. water can't support life because it expands as it freezes." What isn't easy to imagine is all of the ways life might find to take advantage of whatever its surroundings might happen to be.
I really enjoy your content, thanks.

Saw this and then saw only 44k views and was upset as how could so few people watch one of your videos. Then realized it was uploaded yesterday and now I feel better. Hundreds of thousands of more views to come!

I’ve always been intrigued by the idea of liquid/gas life forms

"Silicon based life".. and Kardashians popped right into my mind

Have a friend that is a speculative biologist. Recently has been branching out on forms of life.
Some neat ones are
A rogue planet whose food chain begins with geothermal energy instead of sunlight. It has a large moon to keep the mantle active. It is still pretty cold. They use liquid methane instead of water. It helps that methane can also be used as an energy source, since the plants there have less motive to be above ground so they are hard to find.
Another is this metallic space faring species. They are not artificial robots, but still are made of what we would think of as being much like electronic devices. They are like social insects, creating hexagon filled hives floating in space. They use metal from passing asteroids to build their ship, and once the ship gets to a certain size, it is split into two ships, with one getting its own queen.

I didn't not know about that plasma experiment. Damn... That was both fascinating and terrifying for so many reasons.

"We got lucky" is one of the most beautiful statements I've heard describing to gift of life on earth. We are goddamn luck to be here.

Wait, so if plasma based life's possible, our sun could be densely populated and we'd be none the wiser.

This is why I like science. Endless possibilities. Always new discoveries waiting for us to find.

All of these speculations about alien life remind me of the speculations about extrasolar planets before we started finding them. Many of those planets and solar systems were far weirder and more exotic than anything we had imagined at that point, starting with the very first confirmed exoplanets who were in orbit around a pulsar! When we do discover alien life, I'm pretty sure it will be even more exotic and different from our own in ways that will simply blow our minds.

Excellent. This list is what you get when you have the intellectual courage to fight your life-related biases.

I had a bizarre thought when it came to the shadow biosphere. It kind of reminded me of the 1 Stargate SG1 Episode called "Sight Unseen" where people are seeing aliens, but it turns out the aliens are living on Earth the whole time, just out of phase so we can't see, interact or experience interactions with them.

We need to take a serious look at Titan.

Fantastic content. I discovered you through the homie Isaac Arthur. Of all the possibilities, I like the shadow biosphere. I mean, there’s so many possibilities for life. Fascinating. Love the channel.
