All that bloatware and tracking definitely hurt windows 11 and with windows 12 being heavily infused with Ai gaming on windows will decline further

When Linux gaming works it's great! The problem is that "it works"" isn't always the case.

I really hope Valve makes a proper go of SteamOS for desktop, I won't run it but a lot of other people will. Anything that makes Windows less appealing to the normies is a good thing.

After many years of using only windows... I moved to Arch a few months ago and I have to say... My experience has been great. I love the feeling of installing only the things I really need. And gaming... Has been great too.

i still use win10 as sort of backup when it comes to some games
but i am so happy with linux as gaming system
valve is pushing proton and stuff so hard
when you check how fast linux gaming evolve now

Linux gaming has been absolutely amazing for me, especially for older games. Test Drive Unlimited, is one of my all-time favs and it did not want to run on W11, but fired right up on Linux. Just set a prefix in Lutris, install and launch.
Only thing I am missing now is multiplayer, it's the only reason I keep W11 around, still have lots of issues with anticheat.

My dream for Linux gaming is to have it at very least a second class citizen with decent developer support...

Now all they need to do is make it even less complicated to install games on Linux, and then watch as the magic happens. BTW Linux is at 3.21%.

I recently migrated back to Pop_OS from Nobara. Nobara gave me like +2 to 3 fps but the amount of jank I experienced wasn't worth it.

I have Win 11 and Debian 12 (I know, not the gaming choice) on the same PC, and most all of my games run smoother and faster on Debian than they do on the Windows partition. Really impressive how far we've come.

"yeah windows still has the edge in gaming"
<less than a day later>
"So looking at these statistics it seems like linux is consistently ahead of windows by a little bit but remember these aren't even the whole story because these test systems are completely clean installs that don't represent the real-world slowdown present on most actual windows machines, so the disparity is likely even higher. Windows users really don't even realize how far Windows has actually fallen"

When Anti-Cheat works then I will be HAPPY!

I checked the frame times myself, and.. I'll still wait a couple years on Windows before completely switching. With the progress they've made in the last few years, gaming on Linux might be much better than Windows by then. Who knows..

Unless nvidia, amd, steam, blizzard etc all come to the linux party, gaming will still be way behind. There is no financial incentive for these companies to come to linux at this time.

literally the only reason that i haven't gone to linux yet is because i can't get to run android games on there. i've had the intention of moving for 2 years now
i've heard that waydroid works, i'll try linux again sometime

Hope some bigger channel like LTT redoes these benchmarks
so it gets a bigger coverage
I think that would be really cool

Arch is where it's at if you care about performance when gaming. Moved my gaming desktop to Arch and couldn't be happier. Much better FPS vs Windows.

Why are the 1% lows so bad on Nobara? Is it fixed?

the question of which OS (linux vs windows) is better for gaming is not determined by performance. it's determined by which OS is used more. as of december 2023, for desktop and laptop computers, Microsoft's Windows is the most used at 69%, followed by Apple's macOS at 21%, and Google's ChromeOS at 3.7% (in the US up to 7.9% ), and desktop Linux at 3.2%, so on traditional PCs Linux sums up to 7% share. although this statistics isn't very accurate (it's from wikipedia which mentions why it's not accurate) it is accurate enough to conclude that windows is used far more than linux. this causes the game developers to focus their attention on windows rather than linux. many developers are now developing for both windows and linux but plenty of developers are still developing for windows only and as far as i know, there are no developers that develop for linux only. performance becomes irrelevant if the game you want to play is not available on linux. this reason alone is enough to declare windows as the victor for a very long time if not forever.
