AMD Ryzen 5 3600 paired with a GTX-1660 OC. Gaming under Linux has been just as good as it was under Windows, but I don't use ray tracing since I can't. :) Not sure if I get better performance, but I feel from what I've monitored via MangoHud that I'm getting the same performance at the very least. I don't play multiplayer games like Pubg or Fortnite, but instead mainly single players games. Also, I have the peace of mind that MS isn't spying on me anymore or selling my data. Also, stability and security. I just trust Linux more for stability and security.

For other Linux gamers with Nvidia cards, who switched recently.
If you have options to run the game using Vulkan (even in Proton) always stick to Vulkan. You gain more FPS just because of not using DXVK or D3DVK.
Also have hope. Nvidia Drivers seems to suck less and less with time and newer versions (don't run open sorce ones, they're completely not like Mesa for AMD).

HDR is pretty much what keeps me coming back to Windows. I think HDR, even SDR to HDR conversion, adds more value to games over ray-tracing. Steam's Gamescope for Linux HDR support has helped, but its not very good with Nvidia cards.

Out of curiosity, what's the name of the tool you use to write and draw? Thank you in advance! Nota Bene : What a pleasure to follow your channel ;-)

One thing worth pointing out (although it's not super relevant if you just pirate windows) is that windows cost ~$100 for a legitimate seat license. So if you're building your computer from scratch and you go Linux, you can increase the budget of your GPU by $100 negating any performance loss you get from running Linux and end up with a much better computer overall.

I been loving cachyos. But i just had to make a dual boot for windows. While linux came a far way some games ny friends play i just cant. Also some mods like cyber engine tweaks and the frame gen mod doesn't work on linux.i have a 7900XT

amazingly the answer seems to be "yes!" unless you're using ray tracing

If you remember, I told you I installed Cachy OS after your videos. After a while, I installed vanilla Arch with Hyprland. And I'm switching to NixOS this weekend. What did you turn me into... LOL

My wife use 4070 super in Win10. Want to cjange to Nobara 40. Is raytracing possible because of playing Hogwarts Legacy (Steam)?

Short answer: if you have steam games (with no real bothersome anti-cheat) and don't rely on PC VR, go for linux. Otherwise have a dual boot so that you can always game on one OS and play VR on the other.

(btw ALVR did not work for me. quest 3 headset, linux mint, all the possible options but just black screen. the hardware may not be optimal for linux VR gaming but it does work on Windows)

if you want a hassle free experience for any new or OLD games, you use windows. although that means all your gaming scenes will be observed by the "big brother".
not to say that with linux you dont get similar treatment, but at least you only get to be suppressed and terrorized by "small brother". which have lesser of "long reach".
in linux, you will have more headache if all your intend is just to play games on it.
for example, just recently i move distros to other that has no gnome stuff in it, and some OLD linux native programs that i installed offline that requires some old gnome version of libs DO NOT WORK. and the "different desktop environment" i use now(which i LOVE SO MUCH) dont allow installing old version of gnome libs which the system dont requires to run at all.

with linux, you need to be on NEWER hardwares, with NEWER SOFTWARES/PROGRAMS. even that could still trigger some compatibility issues.
while with windows, you could even run games that was made for windows 98 on windows 11.

Linux gaming world need faster ray tracing, game publishers making more native games, better anticheat solutions, and for AMD users have adrenaline software ported to Linux.

My decision between Win11 and Linux is not only determined by the hardware, but above all by my desire to get away from Microsoft. If I lose a few frames a second in a game, it's more than worth it to me.

My luck is perhaps that I have so many games in my "pile of shame" that I will play Black Myth: Wukong with my new RTX6080. ;) So I don't need to worry about the Linux performance of the game just yet.
