If the Steam Deck does well then hopefully other companies will have to look into making games accessible for Linux if they want to make money from that customer base.

As a long time Linux Rust player I disagree about the FPS loss. Rust runs perfectly under Proton, like native in most cases - the only problem is having to play on non-EAC servers and hopefully this will be fixed soon with the Steam Deck on the horizon.

I miss Linux Mint, but I'm too invested in the Xbox ecosystem. However, it's amazing to see how gaming on Linux is getting better and better.

I actually find that many games get better performance through Vulkan on Linux than they do in windows. I can play with higher settings and get more fps and smoother gameplay. For everything I can't get working on Linux, I use GPU passthrough to a windows VM and that is mostly sufficient if a bit slow storage wise because it's on a standard 7200 rpm HDD. Anyway I mostly play single player games these days because I am time poor but I primarily use Linux with the latest kernels and drivers for the majority of games I play. Whether I can play something on Linux actually affects what games I will buy as I make purchasing decisions based on protondb ratings

Great video. Been playing games solely on linux for 20 years and, specially because of Valve, things have been getting better all the time. One common thing not discussed was peripheral issues. Ex: the race game might work but not in VR, HDR monitors or good luck in some game getting the controller to work. Hopefully these continues to improve.

OMG, EQ! 😳 I don't dare counting the hours I sank into that game since 1999. So beautiful. I knew you were one of the good guys. 😋👍

I switched to Manjaro Linux from Windows 10 it worked perfectly than I ran into a problem with Dota I thought I'll gave up and just retured to Windows in shame but than I managed to repair it and make it work it felt great.

Linux is better for preserving retro-gaming (emulators and MS-DOS/Boomer 95 games) change my mind ;)

I’m a hardcore gamer I play and stream mostly any game that releases and I find enjoyable. I was looking into Linux because lately I’ve seen more and more videos on it. glad you added this right at the beginning so I won’t waist time! I stopped the video, dropped a comment and a like! We’ll deserve!

As an Arch user I can tell you that gaming on GNU/Linux has improved by Leaps and Bounds in the last couple of years. My experience with Arch is been great. Install Steam, Wine, Lutris and with the addition of the AUR you can pretty much have a great gaming experience overall. While Installing Arch is not the easiest thing for newbies there's always Manjaro or EndevaourOS or you can try the Anarchy ISO script that can install a Vanilla Arch instalation in 15 minutes.

The fact is, I'm trying to get out of Windows for a long time but just now I made because gaming, the main reason I have a PC. But to do so only having a decent and recent PC to make this happen.

Your videos aren't showing up on odysee. Is it on purpuse or maybe a bug or desync?

For me i actually went from 80 fps in CS GO (unlimited) to 160, and from 60 (unstable) to 60 lock with vsync on linux.

I just moved over to Linux, Ubuntu 20.04, Windows 11 has pushed me over. I've tried multiple times in the past to move, but would always run into a roadblock of applications that wouldn't run. This time, there's only one which if can't figure out, I'll just VM or Dual-Boot Windows when I need to run it.
Fact is, Proton has made moving to Linux for gaming a no brainer, compared to in the past, getting games to run out of the box was easy. Getting them to run in 4K with better frame-rate sealed it for me.

Hi Chris.. about gaming.. I have a very specific question about Linux: it's that weird OpenGL version problem you face with emulators like PCSX2.. Even if the display graphics card support some version of OpenGl, integrated or dedicated, you still have a problem since the emulators say it doesn't.. The best I could find on the web is something that has to with some environment variable..

Cyberpunk works much better on AMD GPUs, I switched from a 3090 to a 6900xt and it was a great boost in Linux gaming for me. I get much closer to 1 to 1 performance now! Loving my full amd rig :D
