Let’s talk about intestinal permeability or “leaky gut.” This is a situation where there are holes in your intestine. Your food particles get into these holes and into the lymphatic system causing your immune system to react. This can lead to allergies, inflammation, and scar tissue. Certain foods and medications can destroy the gut lining causing leaky gut.

The vagus nerve is like a huge communication network between the gut and the brain. The vagus nerve helps to maintain the intestinal barrier to prevent pathogens and other things from crossing over into the body.

The vagus nerve is a part of a division of the autonomic nervous system called the parasympathetic nervous system, which has to do with “rest and digest.”

There is a key nutrient that supports the vagus nerve called thiamine. Thiamine comes from grains, but you don’t want to get thiamine from grains because grains contain gluten, which can harm your gut. Consuming grains also creates a deficiency of thiamine (vitamin B1).

A few great sources of vitamin B1 (thiamine) are nutritional yeast and sunflower seeds.

After years of trying to fix my autoimmune issues I found the carnivore diet and fasting to be the most beneficial. All my issues have disappeared and I'm more healthy now than 20 years ago.

In third year neuro-pathology recently we had to do a paper review, my group - we chose the topic on the relationship between gut permeability and parkinsons. Much of the research we reviewed found the bad gut bacteria migrating to the brain via the vegus nerve from gut permeability. Very interesting, glad we had to do it. Lot more travels along that vagus nerve than just neurotransmitters!

Benfotimine, Thiamine, unfortified nutritional yeast, egg yolks. See I benefited on this and previous videos. I am amazed I never knew the Vagus nerves were so important!

The information on this channel is outstanding. IMF and Keto changed my life. It"s shame main stream medicine doesn't promote these two approaches as I believe it would help so many people. Then again, they would be in business if the vast majority of us were healthy!

psoriasis... my opinion, in me came from leaky gut, which came from an imbalance in my digestive juices, which in my case came from too much caffeine (coffee). 6 months with no caffeine and psoriasis went away. i do believe that caffeine free coffee will have a positive result. thanks Doc, you are a big help.

Years ago I had an intestinal problem for about a year. I finally took L glutamine and the problem quickly was resolved. I saw one of your vids that said sugar and glutamine feed cancer so I would be hesitant to take L glutamine supplements now. I used to also take it for bodybuilding as it has been promoted for that. Yes I benefit from content, very informative.

For 11 years I suffered so much from stomach problems and horrible fear (without known reason). When it was discovered that I had IBS and I started to adjust my food indtake to Low foodmap the fear dissapeared and I started to have a life again. I was told that the fear, vagus nerve and IBS was linked together.🙂

Thiamin deficiency (causing beriberi) is most common among people subsisting on white rice or highly refined carbohydrates and among alcoholics.

Thank you for the info about the vagus nerve and it's connection to intestinal permeability. Except, there is a glaring piece of incorrect information in this video and the description that I feel the need to point out so others aren't confused. "Grains contain gluten" is incorrect. SOME grains do (wheat, emmer, barley, farro, einkorn, etc.), but there are MANY grains that do not contain gluten (rice, millet, amaranth, quinoa, oats, etc.).
