Addison Disease - Causes, Symptoms, Treatments & More…

Your adrenal glands are just above your kidneys. The outside layer of these glands makes hormones that help your body respond to stress and regulate your blood pressure and water and salt balance. Addison disease happens if the adrenal glands don't make enough of these hormones.
A problem with your immune system usually causes Addison disease. The immune system mistakenly attacks your own tissues, damaging your adrenal glands. Other causes include infections and cancer.
Symptoms include
• Weight loss
• Muscle weakness
• Fatigue that gets worse over time
• Low blood pressure
• Patchy or dark skin
Lab tests can confirm that you have Addison disease. If you don't treat it, it can be fatal. You will need to take hormone pills for the rest of your life. If you have Addison disease, you should carry an emergency ID. It should say that you have the disease, list your medicines and say how much you need in an emergency.

THANKS for posting this. All doctors I have spoken to have never heard of Addison’s disease. That’s a scary thought when you know more than MD’s.

I was diagnosed at 9 with Addisons Disease. I've had it for 12 years. Honestly, out of all my diseases (yes I have more) it's the easiest to take care of. All I have to do is take my pills everyday and I don't feel like there is anything wrong with me. However I know everyone is different, this is just my experience. The long term effects are just intense weakness about a twice a year and a beautiful permanent tan forever 😂 if anyone reads this who is struggling, it gets better, trust me, even if it doesn't seem that way now ❤

This disease is sooo similar to CAH. I was born with CAH and it pretty much is ruining my life, from the day I was born to this day. Wish there was as many videos about cah as there is about addison, oh well. Great video anyway

I’ve been through an addisonian crisis 4 times in my life. All were ICU stays. It can be very scary. My major symptom was extremely low blood glucose levels. I had most all the other symptoms except very noticeable darkening of my skin (I always use a self tanning product so that covers it my doctors think) One time my glucose level was only 17 when I got to the ER. It’s a scary disease to deal with.

Have craved salt ALL MY LIFE. LOVE IT. SCARES PPL when they see me eat tho. So I hide it. Feel fine. Try not to panic. Fatigue I thought was always depression related and I thought the patches were large freckles... Hmmm. How I got here from bleeding from the bum after the loo I dunno. Lol! Nippy... Lol!
