Cyberpunk 2077 RT Overdrive: A Tour of Night City - 4K 60FPS - RTX 4090

Our recent preview of the Cyberpunk 2077 RT Overdrive Technology Preview was relatively short and condensed - and we actually found that we had a lot of leftover b-roll that was simply too good not to share. John Linneman carried out the capturing and editing for this one, using an RTX 4090 in the RT Overdrive mode in 4K DLSS Performance Mode. We're aiming for 60 frames per second here, and we're not using DLSS 3 frame generation to do it...

When the visuals are this good you do start to notice the odd npc animations a lot more.

keep the overdrive videos coming; I could look at this stuff forever!

It's interesting how detailed the environment art, the world lighting and reflections are, then you see a character with an obviously looping idle animation or someone bumping into a an object along the side of the walkways, simply moonwalking in place, and it just takes you out of it. That's something I don't notice as much in older games, even when those games were considered state-of-the-art and it feels almost like just all of the strides taken to graphical fidelity only serve to highlight how seemingly little AI behavior and animation has improved by comparison. It's very bizarre.

it's weird. some of it looks almost life-like, but really... maybe it's because the lighting is so precise now... it makes the choice in materials really stand out. Having side walks that are a little too flat, running tangent to a wall that is also a little too perfectly flat, creating this seem that you always knew was there but now stands out even more.

Or the fact that some random objects in the scene are so low poly that they reflect the light in "eye-catching" ways.

Everything becomes so grounded in the world when all these RT systems are in place! Just incredible stuff. For being such an early RT effort in the grand scheme of things, this is a foundational achievement!

When a new GPU comes out.... "Can your pc run overdrive native without dlss?" it's the new "can it run crysis"

Features like these should be celebrated. The more games that get features like these, the less likely your favorite games will look dated in the years to come.
Limiting settings to current hardware has never made sense to me. Even simple stuff like capping maximum LOD distances or shadow resolutions seem pointless

Gotta give it up for the edit on this one. Fantastic stuff. A great mix of locations and scenery that really shows off what Path Traced lighting can accomplish. Exciting stuff! I'm not sure if I can get on board the Ray Tracing train again, but if so, count me in! Hopefully in 10 years, what, with Epic's Lumen, DLSS and now Frame Generation, this could be the standard soon enough!

Would love a 3 way video (Rich, John, Alex) exploring the city - one on console, one PC Psycho RT, and one with Overdrive RT.

Someday, this will be the norm. And, someday, this great looking city will be filled with actual interactivity, with NPCs run by AI natural language models who will hold conversations with the player and have personalities. Imagine.

Guys, this editing is wonderful. Whomever was responsible, you are a class act. Thank you for showcasing this in such fine style for those of us who will never experience this level of graphical fidelity. It is much appreciated.

Once the lighting starts to look this good you start to notice the weird "video game" things more, like duplicate models walking next to each other and models doing weird animations randomly. Like video-game uncanny valley.

Some of these scenes look almost photorealistic. This game is amazing and RT just brings it to life. I can't wait for RT to become more mainstream in games and I hope it's given the care that the Overdrive patch for every game going forward.

Even with it's many flaws, you can't deny this game is visually... breathtaking

If you look closely at 8:07 you can see the Cybermatrix factory pop into light, is it because its not part of the path tracing geometry until it comes into view?
