The Ps5 console did a great job for the $500 hardware.

Some unsolicited criticism: I suggest flipping the pictures back and forth rapidly 2 or 3 times for comparison, not the slow gradual fade. Digital Foundry does that and it's so much easier to compare.

I have a 4090 and overdrive does look amazing in many scenarios, sometimes jaw dropping but PS5 still looks phenominal, shows just how talented the artists actually are.

It’s only been 3 years and this game already looks like a remaster because of the lighting lol. Well done

Hard to see a difference at first, but from about 1:30 in, I started to see a big improvement in lighting and reflections on PC version.

Considering the cost of a PC with a 4080 in it which would be around £2500- the PS5 is £400… you really can’t complain. I think there both winners 👍

Props to the artists at CD Projekt that managed to evoke such a distinct aesthetic entirely within the constraints of rasterization techniques. They managed to fake about 60-70% of what light actually does in those scenes will going for a mood or tone. But there's just no replacing actual light simulation. I noticed where it really shines is in indoor scenes, nighttime, and any location where old GI and ambient occlusion techniques would fail. It REALLY grounds objects in the world, and the effect it has on the NPCs is perfect. It removes that non-PT glow to them that always looked unnatural. It almost felt like they were unlit in certain circumstances.

The 4080 looks amazing but they are both a step above what was release in 2020 for all platforms, congrats to cdpr on the clean up work.

With pathtracing enabled it's not even close but the PS5 still looks great, especially if you consider the price difference.

At 0:09 can we talk about how the cloth had better texture on 500$ hardware than a 2000$ pc build

Give it like 10 years and Ray Tracing will become the default method used to manage lighting in video games, rasterization will be a thing of the past and that's good for developers, no more time consumed to pre-calculate litghting in interiors etc... But at the moment, ray tracing is still way too heavy to handle even for an RTX 4090.

4:07 is the biggest difference I've seen so far. There the shadow quality and lighting of PS5 really hurts it's believability while the PC version looks unbelievable.

also 6:00 the way characters are rendered definitely always looked off on the PS5 version

Game is gorgeous regardless. Path tracing just adds and extra layer of "wow!" effect that shows us how the future games can look like.
As a sidenote.. Every time I see CP2077 gameplay I remind myself how freakin amazing this game is.

Every detail i seein in path tracing is just god damn jaw dropping. From reflections to colored light bounces i feel like im in a movie.

$500 for an entire console vs $1200 for the GPU alone... pretty obvious what would win

who would've thought a $1, 500 graphics card is going to look better than a $500 console?

Overdrive mode is jaw dropping. However it's more of tech showcase as it's not within 99 percent of gamers reach. And this goes to show how good gaming consoles are... Thoroughly optimized for gaming, truly purpose made. The system architecture of the PS5, its software and interface and ingenious design make this amazing performance possible.

1:57 These two images should be combined. On PC you can see heavy rain, but in the puddle you can barely see that it's raining. On PS5 you can see that it's raining heavily, but you can't see it 😂

The PC version is obviously better but the difference isn't worth the cost of the rig to run it

5:55 You can definitely see Overdrive's RT in full force in this scene. The bounce lighting is the key here. Look at all the green bouncing off the stand and onto Jackie's skin and clothes, making him appear less flat and more physically _in_ the scene. This is why I love ray tracing. This even happens on Medium/Ultra RT settings on PC.

9:27 Also here with objects above reflections, there's a weird outline around the rocks on the PS5 version, but with PC Overdrive, it disappears and rocks are properly shaded and cast their own shadows and reflections on water. You'll also notice the large rock formations are casting more bounce lighting (the orange hue on some of the rock shadows in the overdrive mode).
