Benign hypertrophy of the thyroid can be present in people and in people who have that can have normal thyroid thyroid hormones in clinical examination. So swelling of thyroid is not a dangerous issue. But if it is very large and causing cosmetic effects and there is unsightly effect on the neck. These are situations where one has to tackle the causative features were there is a large thyroid causing symptoms. A large thyroid can be a very benign lesson like in Hashimotos thyroid. Every thyroid swelling does not requires surgical intervention. Only the ones that are large needs to be addressed.

Often tests will come back normal, despite levels not being up to par. There are proper tests that reveal more, that of course many doctors don't request.

Jeez, the thyroid growth for me has been painful for 5 months …so how can you say it’s only cosmetic affect when it get swollen ? It’s painful I can’t work much . I finally will see an endocrinologist after many test and referrals….

I had a goiter on my neck went to doctor doctor said it was benign go to a surgeon for a second opinion waited a year or two it started hurting I had been using ashawagonda called Dr had scan and blood work done said my thyroid levels were fine before I could get to ears, nose, and throat doctor it completely shrink to nothing and he told me if it comes back take a picture.
