The spin on automatic transmission filter should be on EVERY automatic transmission made today. Such a great engineering idea in my opinion. All Subaru had to do was make the auto trans filter a different size so it could not be confused with the engine oil filter. Transmissions would last much longer with the ease of service with a spin on filter and a good old fashioned dipstick!

Subaru should have used a different sized threat on the transmission filter.

A/T filter is a must. Though i go to Napa for one. $15 vs $50 from dealer. Much cheaper and at $15 i change it yearly

Thanks for taking one ($40) for the team...👍🏽 I have 2, 2008 Subarus, so this is interesting 🧐...Thanks, Mr. Subaru!

I had replaced my AT filter on my 03' LL Bean with a WIX AT. OEM japan filter was plugged. Definitely not lifetime. Smoother shifting now. Thanks Mr. Subaru

Replaced my filter at 330'000 km but always replaced oil. I agree with you should replace more often. Why not, its easy.

Another great video! On our 2006 Outback, I changed the trans fluid every 30k, and the filter every 60k. Used Subaru filters; Bosch was only $5 cheaper. Traded in the car with 150k miles and never experienced a transmission issue.

As a transmission rebuilder id have to say that the engine filter media would tear if used in the transmission and the bypass valve psi setting would be incorrect. Ive always wondered why they printed engine on the blue filters never thought someone would use one for a transmission

You need to say "Subaru America" says, as we both know "Subaru Japan" has different maitanance schedule. :)

I've asked a second hand Subaru dealer in Tokyo about how often the CVT oil. The answer was: 40k km (25k miles). The guy was very surprised that I cared to ask.

My 04 Forester has 220 Kmiles on original engine and transmission. I replaced oil filter 1 time per year and transmission oil filter 1 every other year using Frame premium filter 6627 I believe. It still run OK now.

I’m going to be honest with you MrSubaru. I used to be a lube tech at a Walmart Auto Center and 80% of the time the idiotic coworkers drained the transmission fluid and removed the atf filter on older Subarus. It was very annoying because I had to fix their stupidity in order to get this car finished so I literally had to finish the job while they learned from their mistakes but they still never learn. But I’m so happy that I left before COVID-19 took over, currently I am an express Lube Tech at a Subaru Dealership and I have to say, it’s way better compared to when I worked at Walmart Auto Center. But thank you for the entertaining video!

Very educational and thanks for the laugh as I also can’t wrap my head around people confusing the drains and filters. Additionally thanks for showing the design differences and materials! I definitely won’t be running FRAM scam made subaru filters

It's amazing that even a lube tech don't know the difference from engine and trans

Great info I have a 2007 4 speed EAT good stuff to know thinking about draining down 4 quarts and adding a new filter the dealership /stealership etc offer expensive repairs with no explanation of why they are needed. You make sense to me. Looking at the cost of new Subarus only briefly then the sticker shock puts me in the Toyota camp. Subaru Forester has been great changed rear wheel bearings and timing belt plus passenger side boot think I am good. Thanks for the insights.
