Return of the beater sounds like a porn spoof of star wars

If I am going to pay $900 a month for anything, it needs to have at least 1 bathroom.

Nice cars shouldn't impress people anymore. Like the commenter said, 50% of American's don't even have $1000 to cover an emergency but they're out there driving a Luxury SUV.

Car manufacturers make more money from their finance department than the actually profit from the sale of the vehicle itself. That's the world we live in today.

A lot of dealers don't want your cash because they can make more money selling you a loan. So, cash is king when you are buying from an individual but if you are talking to a dealer, they want to sell you a loan.

I took a girl out in a muscle car I owned. taking her home my headlight died. My house was close by so made it to get my other car a crapper Subaru commuter car. She was like "I'm not getting in that". I walked into my house told her to call a cab and shut the door. Now first dates are in my crappier car.

There's a certain kind of *freedom* driving a beater car and "not giving a crap about it" like that man said vs a higher end, high maintenance car.

I remember being stationed in Providence RI (Coast Guard) and me and a friend would laugh at our Chief driving his old, POS VW Rabbit. Well, he invited us to a cookout and we saw his wife’s nice ass Jeep and his nice ass house on the water. That was a lesson taught that he didn’t even know he was teaching. We grew a lot that day.

I was taught if you can't pay off a new car in 4 years, you can't afford it. My first lesson was pay cash for a car. You don't know what's going to happen next week, month, or year.

I dated many girls on my 20s. No car and only twin mattress at my apt. Many left me no second date. Age 27 I meet my wife. She like me. Got married age 30. We combine income. We bought 2 cars Cash and now at age 37 we buying a 430k home cash. I also paid off all her school debt. I keep my money hidden from her years. Our wedding was under 500 and my wedding ring 50 dollars. She never knew.

I'd be happier to own my older car outright and have no debt than to show off a newer car with a stupid high payment... and I am. Got a 2011 4 door Volkswagen GTI 3 years ago from an old snowbird that serviced it meticulously every 5k, has every single upgrade they offered from the factory, garage kept and it only had 40k on the clock. Bought myself a Chilton service manual for $40, a good set of sockets and the rest is downhill.

If a woman's worried about your car, she's only there for the lifestyle she thinks she can get from you.

Last December, my little brother in Florida called to tell me he was getting a brand new car. I asked, "What about the F150 Dad gave you?" He said it was old, not running, and that he was giving it away to the first person who came to pick it up. He bought his new car and I decided to take a few days off and visit his place. I did some basic maintenance on the truck and drove it all the way from Florida to Oklahoma. No problems! Now it's my daily driver! I think he regrets it every time I tell him how great the truck drives, lol. Sometimes, an old car just needs a little maintenance—no need for a brand new one.

I used to be a manager at a big repo company. There were a lot of repeat repos. Most of them came from title loans. Title loan gets repo'd, goes to auction, gets bought by another pot lot, goes to someone, gets repo'd again, goes to public auction, gets bought, person gets a title loan, rinse and repeat
