I’m going through a divorce. Wife has my vehicle. I’ve been walking everywhere. Everywhere. I’m retired military and could go get a vehicle anytime. But I am not paying these ridiculous prices and interest rates. I probably look crazy taking a backpack to the grocery store but at least my money is my money. Way less stress this way.

Dude! I work at a cell phone repair shop making $17. This new girl that started 2 weeks after I did told me she had just got a 2022 Mustang GT.... and her payment was $900 a month. A MONTH! Thats rent! And she lived with her parents so she thought it was okay. It took everything I had to not laugh in her face about that. And here's the kicker. She got fired after a month because she missed too many days. 🤣🤣

Ive had my car repossessed during recession era. Owed 8k on it. What I've learned from then and now is; never associate yourself with lazy and unmotivated people, pay off credit loans, save and invest money in high yield accounts, and buy cars with CASH!! That was 13 yrs ago.

My mechanic told me last year not to buy a vehicle. He said that as long as your vehicle is paid for and running well, to keep it. Also, he advises people not to buy the newest, computerized cars because of the high repair costs and parts. I'm glad I listened to him. It's crazy that a car note is almost $1, 000.

I'm so glad I am car note free. A few years ago my car was repossessed after battling cancer and losing my job after treatment was done. I struggled and got a new job, rode the bus, borrowed a friend's car for a minute, saved up and bought a cash minivan for $700. I proudly drove that van back and forth to my new job. A few months later, I traded the van for an older Honda Civic. Paid that off in 10 months...traded it for a bigger Honda Accord....paid it off in 6 months.
I then drove car note free for two years, saved my money and then upgraded to a luxury SUV that I paid cash for from a one owner with low miles. I will keep it till it dies! When I try to tell people that are struggling to do what I did, they balk at it. I now keep my advice to myself. Then some people want to hate but have no idea the journey I had to go through to get to where I am...and I'm not done yet.

Always remember the average person is only 2 missed paychecks away from losing everything. Let that sink in

I’m sorry.. I’m an old millennial. I still remember when rent was $600. There’s no way I’m paying $730 JUST for the note. No insurance, no maintenance…smh. How can you ever attain wealth? Thank God i live in the suburbs of a major city with public transit.

Too many people focus on being 'fake rich' and run up so much debt. I bought a 3yo used car and paid it off in 5 years with 350/mo payment. Never ever missed a payment because I made it a priority to keep my car in my own hands!

I love driving my paid for car and hearing people make fun of me for the size and look of the vehicle. Hearing “I would never ride around in that” and seeing and hearing “don’t you want to drive something new every year…” just goes to show that I’ve made the right financial decision when it comes to my vehicle

My car broke down. It was going to cost 5k to fix it at the shop.
The car part was only $100 and the $4900 was for labor.
But I decided to buy the part myself and put it in.
I saved $4000 by buying tools and started a side business fixing car's plus my own vehicle. Just by taking a risk.

I can't believe people pay these outrageous amounts for a car. I am 3 weeks from being completely out of debt. I will keep my 10 year old car at these prices. Debt is insane.

Bald tires, two months behind on payment, late or missed registration, credit score in the 500's, credit cards on full tilt.. no sleep due to repo fears, yet the weed guy is on speed dial. I've lived all of that fam. Prayer, digging 10 toes down deep, and becoming a lone wolf got me out of that mess.

96 months on a car payment is like a prison sentence 😮

The reason why the brokest people have the most pride is because it's feels ashamed to be broke. It's humiliating, so broke people find ways to hide it and put up facades to pretend they not broke. Sorry to say, but society has trained people to be that way. It's just time to move forward and teach people how to accept their circumstances and build up to be better. Thank you for starting the conversation and teaching people how to deal with and overcome being broke. This will definitely be a game changer for many.

I have never purchased a new car, only used. Many of my friends out of highschool purchased nice cars and ended up giving away their pull paycheck in monthly payments. I rode my bike to work, took the bus and worked hard until I could buy my car straight up with no financing. This saved my thousands of dollars and was a great decision.

This is why i bought all my cars cash. I NEVER had to worry about somebody taking my car. Too many people trying to keep up with the Joneses.

A $730 ( really $800) car payment is Anton ‘s breakdown of the related cost ( gas, insurance, maintenance, repairs, tags…) is spot on. For $800 car note, you may have to live in your car, real talk.

My car crapped out and I had to buy a new one. I wasn’t financially prepared, I ended up with payments of $450…and I thought those were crazy high payments! Can’t imagine paying over $700! I was hoping to have a year or two longer so I could save money…I didn’t want a loan. The car market is terrible right now!

That's why I rather just Buy a car for a few thousand and fix what ever needs to be fixed. No Repo over here! ✊🏾

Shout out to all the people who were laughed at by their peers for not having the latest car or latest gear or for not going out or not eating out, etc because we were saving our money for this rainy day.

Edit: Thank y'all for the love. Despite having enough savings to retire at 50, fighting cancer for the past 10 years has finally drained my tank. If there's anything any of you are able to donate so I can continue my treatments, I'd be most grateful.
