On today's Star Wars Legends Lore video, we take a closer look at the Greatest Imperial Officer ever (not named Thrawn).

The Galactic Empire was filled to the brim with incompetent officers. However, a few stood out, chief among them was General Maximilian Veers. Veers appeared first in the Empire Strikes Back during the Battle of Hoth, but also had an extensive backstory in Star Wars Legends

Couple notes: probably could've included Thrawn instead, but (a) I wanted to pick someone from the movies and I think I've covered Thrawn enough and it would be predictable.

Also, Veers wasn't perfect. He was way too attached to the AT-AT and ignored its flaws, though I think in the end that vehicle served them well.

This is the kind of guy who isn't blind and deploys the garrison.

It's nice to see Veers get some respect for once. It's a shame Dark Empire gave him such an forgettable death.

The reason Veers was severely demoted was because of his relationship with Vader that people hated him for, according to Wookiepedia.

I think the reason he would have been demoted is because as usual, Imperial command was highly corrupt and a guy like Verrs would be seen as a threat to a weaker leader up the command chain.

Best ground hero in EaW, his big "Fuck you" laser barrage is one of the best abilities

Not true, the best imperial was the stormtrooper who hit his head on the door frame in A New Hope. His intelligence and grace are unrivaled by any other imperial officers.

The Empire needs more men like Veers...and Eck :)

It wouldn't be an empire without a crippling hatred for the success of others. Spaceballs had the right idea of crewing everything with assholes, now that's harmony.

He might have been intelligent, but you can't deny that he chose... poorly.

Veers is one of my favorite minor characters in Star Wars. He's just so obviously confident and competent, and the fact that he leads his forces on the frontline instead of hanging back says alot about him.

Veers was a great guy, but even then you could argue that he wasnt the best. He promoted thr use of the AT-AT (as awesome as it is, its got big flaws), and covered up some of its flaws.
However, since I can not come up with a person who contributed more to the Imperial war machine than Veers

"General Veers Prepare your troops for a surface attack." Is my catch phrase when I start a ground invasion on stellaris and empire at war :D

I would have to disagree. Veers, Thrawn and Yularen are all great officers, the best of the best. But if you are looking for the Imperial officer which has had the largest impact and always did everything with consideration for his men, competence and solid tactics (though perhaps not as brilliant as Thrawn), it would have to be Gilad Pellaeon. He ordered the retreat at Endor, when all other officers were to stunned by the second death stars destruction, was the second in command of Thrawn, he ended up leading the Imperial Remanent, negotiated a permanent peace with the New Republic, fought with the New Republic against the Yuuzhan Vong, and died in on of the most epic way I have seen (or read in this case) in Star Wars. He wasn't the flashiest, or the most brilliant, but he fought for the Old Republic and the Empire for a total of 60 years. As a character he made me rout for the Empire.

Did they say he was demoted or it possible that the writer got his rank wrong?

This is the first video that I see about Maximilian Veers... Only a few minutes on the screen of The Empire Strike Back, and my favourite character of Star Wars was born... Dude, I just buy 8 AT-AT replica to have the perfect reproduction of the Blizzard Squadron... Unfortunately, this character wasn't really used with all his potential on the screen. I hope to see him in a future movie or a fan film. Vader love this guy... Just like me.
