to anyone who is wondering about Darth Vader. He is not a military man, hes an imperial leader, like a nobleman to a king. Hes the second emperor, well respected and powerful. Vader isnt meant to be bothered by continual assignment to particular fleet or sector. Hes meant to be a versatile leader capable of overriding military decisions and take actions that are in the best interest of the emperor. Also his loyalty isn't to the empire itself its to the emperor

So who's a higher rank? Vader or Tarkin? Because it seems as if Tarkin had the higher position but Vader is the supreme leader of the whole military. But always took orders from Tarkin

If any one is curious (from what I can tell from the new cannon books (just a guess)) the Navy ranks are as follows:

Junior Lieutenant

Lieutenant

Senior Lieutenant

Captain

Lieutenant Commander

Commander

Commodore

Rear Admiral

Vice Admiral

Admiral

Fleet Admiral

Grand Admiral


Not really sure about the NCO ranks, I know there's atleast a Warrant Officer (Thrawn book) and Master Chief Petty Officer (ANH)

Quick note: The plaque system was changed after the Battle of Yavin. Before the battle, all plaques were composed of a single file (like General Tagge's in 1:34), but after BoY it was changed to double files like you have shown in the video.

Interesting that all crew on a ship would be lieutenant. Kind of explains the mass confusion whenever something goes wrong, since the nearest commanding officer might be far away on the bridge.
Actual militaries have much more diversified ranks, so that no one is far away from their commanding officer and can easily find out what they're meant to be doing.
