High resolution and refresh rate monitor in 1999? (Apple Studio Display CRT)

**I will be remaking this video at a later date**

This 21 inch (19.8 viewable) Apple Studio Display with a Sony Trinitron CRT display was first released in 1999 as a monitor for the PowerMac G3 desktop computers. While those computers are undeniably obsolete their monitors are capable of displaying graphics from my 1080 Ti with a much better contrast and refresh rate than my standard LCD. This monitor is capable of 1600x1200 at 85hz which is impressive for the time and still viable today. In addition, due to the analog nature of CRTs, this monitor brings the response time in down from 6ms to virtually 0.

The question I have is whether or not I it is possible to adjust the screen geometry on this screen with a a driver. If not, would it be possible to pull out an old OS9 machine and use that to adjust the screen and hope it preserves the layout in OSX/Windows 10?

Hello I have the same problem as in it won’t connect to my video consoles it only connected to my old iMac G3 and display was great. Did they ever tell you what they fixed? At first I thought it was probably one of my pins because it is missing one but doesn’t really make any sense because it did work pretty good with the G3. Would really appreciate your help thanks!

Hey man, you don't happen to be in the Houston area and wanting to sell this monitor, do you? I really want this particular monitor and can't find it anywhere!

I have a similar issue with the geometry, but I also can’t use the buttons on the bottom for brightness and contrast. They appear not to work. Is the button in the bottom left a degaussing button?

Thanks!

The most straight forward way to fix the geometry would probably be to replace all the capacitors so that they're at factory spec, as the monitor was crt was probably calibrated to fit the picture on the screen properly for this values. I say most because messing with old drivers is a pain, and messing with proprietary apple software is a pain, and messing with old software is a pain, so trying to get the drivers to adjust the CRT from a computer sounds very painful

Your model doesn't require the mac control panel!!! There are 8 buttons below the front panel where you control the screen geometry!

Yours has a VGA connector instead of ADC yes? But you would need a G4 to calibrate anything? Contrast and Brightness doesn't work?

Most likely your hdmi to vga adapter isn't passing on the EDID of the monitor. There are ways to force resolutions/refresh rates on a pc, but i have no clue for a mac. Most likely this is a deficiency in the hdmi to vga adapter you are using. Try a display port to vga or a usb-c to vga. I've heard some crt enthusiasts are have good luck with them.

I had one that died which came with a G4 which was running osx9. Using the usb cable with os9 opened a lot of configuration and calibration options up, osx was not as good. So yeah, grab an old powermac tower and hope for the best I guess!

(John 14:6) Jesus answered, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but my me."
Repent and turn to Christ Jesus before it is too late. For after this comes the JUDGMENT. Christ died for your sins and rose on the third day, showing that anyone who trusts in him for salvation, will have everlasting life.
(John 3:16) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
