having started drawing like a year ago now, will say that including fundamentals in my daily warm ups [circles, ellipses, boxes, cylinders etc] has really helped! Like I worked on a quick portrait drawing last night, and even having not worked on portrait stuff with any real focus yet, besides some basics, I can tell how much I've improved, and though I can also tell where I need to continue to improve, its one of my favorite pieces!

"Show up and learn something" has been something I've been living by with my creative pursuits and it has done wonders. Embracing a playful, curious mindset helps too.

Thoughtful folks like you and some other cool people whose wisdom I've been fortunate to come across also contribute significantly. :)

I think the biggest issue I had when I started drawing again after 8 years is trying to rush the process and skipping the fundamentals, but also the feeling of not being good enough even though I only have spent about 2 month since I started this year. Right now I'm just taking it one day at a time and working on the building blocks and enjoy the ride along. It's important to pace yourself depending on where you are right now. Your videos have helped me slow down and take my time learning what is important before making something good. keep up the good work.

Tips that have helped me improve include drawing just for myself without any pretentiousness or need for validation. By the way the drawing you made in this video is one of my favorites of yours ever Mr. Rebholz, that sea creature (what appears to be) is so cool.

I would agree with criticism, it hurts but it helps us see how we can get better at things we can’t see yet.

Many other online artists especially Brent Eviston and Proko say you must hold your pencil way back or over hand. What do you recommend as you always seem to draw in different positions and never dictate where you should hold it (thank you for that!).

As a new watcher i want to say that your shading technique is very good. May i ask for how many years you have been drawing.
